Milan didn’t look ready for the speed of the game yesterday. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took him another game or two of competitive basketball to get adjusted.

I am a little nervous about Lynn Kidd, big 6’10 center averaging 18 and 9.

You really think that's the shot the coaches were hoping for?

I really think people expect ISU to just run what they want and don't take into account that the opponent can change things.

This game will likely suit Milan more. It was good for him to feel that length and athleticism though because he'll see a lot of it in conference. Seeing just how good Tamin/Keshon are getting to the rim is going to help earn a lot of open looks for Jones/Milan. I'm confident they'll be able knock those down regularly.

I don’t know that Milan is a 3 at this level. He got roasted on D. The guys he’s going to guard in conference will be able to do that too. I think he’s a stretch 4 at least for this year. And should probably be coming off the bench.

VCU was quite a matchup problem for us which was good for our experience. They were athletic and long. They were hitting threes both contested and uncontested. Milan's shot was off and he wasn't as able to guard their athleticism. Just imagine when he and Omaha really get into a groove to add to the depth.
I'm looking forward to a better game today but, actually am really encouraged after the epic comeback win. We basically had everything that could go wrong do so yesterday:

1) VCU was longer and taller than any team we have played yet and was stuffing most of our attempts inside.

2) We started slow and lethargic, Almost as if we're used to beating teams by 30-50 points :)

3) Milan, Omaha and Tre were almost non factors (at least scoring production wise)

4) We did not make as many FTs as I think this team can

Given all that plus Ward being out, I loved the fight and determination our guys showed. Very encouraged going forward!! Never count out a TJ coached group.

Today is something new again with a 1 day prep etc and playing 2 days in a row

Definitely not. His presence on the court offensively is a big part of opening up driving lanes, regardless of his defense. He just has to be passable defensively to justify a lot of minutes, hence why he played 27 minutes despite struggling shooting. If it were all about D then Omaha/Waston would have picked up more.

I do think a Milan/King/Ward combo is a good bit better defensively than Milan/King/Jones just because Ward's a bit more capable of switching and defending multiple positions than BRE.

Definitely. But guys like Jones and Milan have to be able to knock down their open looks. Jones especially has to get off the snide behind the arc. He had 3 or 4 wide open looks yesterday that weren’t close.

Not missing 10 free throws will also help
The 10 missed free throws is the thing. I believe 3 were front ends of one and ones.

We have WAY more offensive talent this year.

Three guards that can force the issue to at least get to the line can make a huge difference and did last night.

Even if it's missed FTs it resets the game makes the opponent hzve to guard differently as the fouls pile up.

Agreed, and better finishers too even though it didn't look like it in the first half. As bad as that offensive stretch was in the first half we still scored 68 last night which was what last years team averaged, and people keep acting like it was somehow close to the Pitt performance.

Saw on the twitters that ISU scored 51 or something in the last 21 minutes.

They got VCU spread out and things slowed down.
