I don't think we need him now that we have both Dorsey Walker and Okoro on board. If we do have a scholarship open up I would rather we use it on a big man.

Hmmmmm...

I would like to see NWC here because Georges wants him here, and it appears that Coach Hoiberg hasn't pulled his scholly offer.

(That tells me that Coach Hoiberg wants him too.)

GO CYCLONES:yes:

NWC will likely play for Coach H, as in Coach Haith.

It appears to me that D-W and Okoro play the same position. I would happily take NWC.

Of course, it's Fred's opinion that matters!

He will commit and everything will work out. If Fred thinks there wont be room for him, he would have pulled the scholarship instead of continuing to recruit him.

I thought academic scholarships counted against the limit.

Depends on the sport. Football and basketball have the same scholarship rules while other sports do not.

Basically any athletic scholarship awarded to a player (regardless which sport) counts against the team limit once they begin play with the team. So if a player has a track scholarship but also plays football, it will count towards the 85 football limit. The exception being if a scholarship is strictly academic. In which case after one year if the student has a 3.3 grade point average it no longer counts against the team limit in football or basketball.

So if walk-ons have academic scholarships, they would count against the team limit the first year they practice/play but then would not count against the team limit if they maintain a 3.3 gpa.

If you click the link below and go to page 205 under the provision heading 15.5 Maximum Institutional Grant-In-Aid Limitations By Sport and read specifically 15.5.1.1 and 15.5.1.2.2 it touches on academic scholarships counting against the limit.

If I twittered, I'd be all over this. We need to get a commit out of him soon - else I think he will keep getting attention from more schools and will slip away.

This is stupid, we are in a good position right now, and have filled up our scholarship spots. I doubt he is going to wait around to see if someone will leave the team, and honestly i wouldn't want anyone to leave. I think we have a good bunch as is, might as well delete this thread.

I think he wants Webster Chan to be a wide receiver.

I guess Babb (and us) knows the scholarship won't be coming from him.:spinny:

Do people really think a twitter/tweet contest is deciding this? Dear God.

I don't have time to review it now, but doesn't the academic scholarship apply to the sport's limit if the player was recruited to play the sport by the institution? I thought the above clause was really strictly for true (unrecruited) walk ons.

"Stupid" is not recruiting the best team you can and if you have a player not producing help him move on.
