A mercy killing for their season

.....but they've really been out of it for weeks now

I know it almost worked, but why did Nagy dial up the Stanford band play at the opponent's 34? I'd think the odds of completing a hail mary from there would have every bit as much of a chance to succeed as a series of laterals would. Or was Nagy worried that Trubisky might just chuck the ball through the back of the end zone from that range?

Drew Brees has a shot tonight at breaking Peyton Manning's all time record of 539 career TD passes. Brees has 537. Tom Brady currently has 538, meaning this record could change hands between Brees and Brady multiple times before one of them finally calls it a career. I don't think either guy will stick around long enough to get to 600 but you never know. Even in a pass happy league that's a record that might stand for a while before anyone even gets close.

They're getting backed into a corner with Jameis Winston. He's still a turnover machine, but he's doing just enough to where they can't quite justify moving on from him after this season. And they've won too many games to secure a top ten pick where they might be able to draft a new quarterback.

Right, and now what? I'd be OK with moving on and letting him walk in free agency. But if they commit to keeping him then do they sign him to a long term deal or put the franchise tag on him for next season? Tough decisions.
I just think that five years in he's pretty much a finished product - big arm, makes some gorgeous throws, doesn't win enough, and doesn't take care of the ball enough to be trusted as a full time starter. Basically, if he's under center then both teams should be kind of nervous about what he might do.

T-Sizzle claimed by the Chiefs. Win-win. With Okafor tearing his pec Suggs gives them much needed DE depth. Suggs only wanted to go back to the Ravens and said he'd retire if anyone else claimed him. The Chiefs claimed him keeping him away from arguably their biggest AFC competition, respectfully still including the Patriots until they're officially dethroned.

Smart play by KC. Best case scenario they convince him to play and he can still help them out as a pass rush specialist. Worst case scenario he never suits up for them but they keep him from helping a potential postseason opponent. Honestly I'm kind of surprised he even got that far down the waiver request order.

Man, Russell Wilson is holding it together with duct tape and baling wire out in Seattle. Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, and a bunch of dudes nobody's ever heard of for a pass catchers group and he's having a legit MVP season.

I listened to Dan Patrick this morning and Winston is Patrick's most interesting QB to watch. On his show they mentioned that Winston will likely throw for over 5,000 yards while also leading the league in interceptions.

Bengals @ Dolphins and Giants @ Redskins next week. Cincy can still screw it up by beating Miami and then the cratering Cleveland Browns in Week 17. It'd be kind of interesting if the top pick ends up going to the Redskins or Giants since they're already invested in a young QB. Both teams could be open to moving down.

Winston falls into a similar category as Matt Stafford, in my opinion. Just good enough to keep a job, but you can't really be happy about them as your franchise qb. Some fans will point to giant stat lines as proof of their competency, but that's fool's gold

I like Stafford a little better, but I see your point. Big numbers and not much to show for them. At least Stafford doesn't routinely barf up a four or five turnover game.
