Even if he lives on a farm in New Jersey, this is still New York sports we are talking about. Crazy media, pressure, high expectations

One of the great surprises is how quickly you get into some nice forests and small towns when you start driving west from East Rutherford and gross Newark.

I don’t know if they are nice, but I thought the area about 30 min west of Newark was kind of cool.
Its wild when you're at the top of the empire state building or any of the major skyscrapers in NYC and you look to the north and west and see rolling hills and mountains. And to the west in NJ it's marshy tidally etc. hence the name Meadowlands. I never would have thought that in the biggest metropolis in the country that you'd even be able to see countryside like that.

I grew up in Connecticut. Years ago an ISU student I knew was flown out there for an interview. He came back and was so surprised that there were so many rolling hills and trees. He thought the east coast was all concrete.

If you think about the most rabid, negative, few posters on CF, which represent a tiny portion of the overall ISU fanbase, then apply that to the average NY sports fan and media member, it's hard to fathom.

I think those of us on CF feel like our fanbase is a bit more manic than it really is. Between the relationship with media and a vast majority of fans, ISU sports is a complete fantasy world of positivity, long leashes and benefit of the doubt.

Honestly, I feel like Chi/NY media/fan pressure has lessened quite a bit over the last ten years as most of their teams outside the Yankees have not be all that dominant.

Feels like expectations have been lowered.

If I'm the Jets, I go get Aaron Glenn. He's done amazing in Detroit, former Jet, he is already familiar with the foreseted rolling hills of NJ and the Hoboken restaurant scene ....it just makes sense.
Glenn and Flores are really hurt by the fact that everybody wants an offensive guru as a head coach. They've both done amazing jobs, and Flores did a pretty good job as HC at Miami.

I would love to get another year or two of Flores at the helm of the Vikings defense, but it's probably not in the cards, nor should it be. He's been incredible.

And when Glenn took over the Lions D they were SO terrible. The fact that they have held up at all with all their injuries has been one hell of a job by him.

Chicagoland is dying. They just can't muster the same level of anger.

Where are you seeing the Jags job?

Also I don't see him playing games like that. Maybe he decides Iowa State isn't serious about NIL, but I doubt he is going to ***** about the split between football and basketball.

Hmmm...buddy at work that is super locked into the NFL told me his name was out for the Jags job but now that I look online I don't see anything...my bad, didn't mean to start a rumor!

Also, do I believe MC would do ANYTHING to get funds to his program? Yes - Matt has canned very close personal friends for the betterment of the program, he would for sure "play games" to make sure his program was funded the way he wants it.

Can confirm, they are nice (I live 30 minutes west of Newark and about 20 minutes north of the jets practice facility, lol. For perspective, we have enough bears here that bear proof cans are required in our town)
Yep my relative in NJ has bears at his apartment complex, kind of lives on a mountain.

I have a feeling most of the snide comments here about NJ are from people who have never been there, but are the first to complain when all they show around Ames is corn fields.

If that was a serious bone of contention, it would have been sorted out prior to signing his new contract.

One of the sparsest stretches of interstate highway I've driven on lately is I 86 from just East of Erie PA to where it connects with 390 near Bath.

Driving it at night is kind of spooky. Unlike here you don't see any lights along the roadway for miles and miles (wooded) even at most of the interchanges.

Not sure about NY, but I keep my in pulse on a lot of Chicago sports talk, and the media has not changed other then they have to talk about a lot of bad teams.
