Okay, be honest. What was your initial reaction when CMC was hired?

I liked that he was previously a head coach and had won a lot of games. That's about all I knew of him. He seemed confident and comfortable in the press conference too. Prohm struggled a bit with that.

I will admit that I was having serious doubts leading up to the OU game last year. With the all drama/uncertainty around the Park situation, and the way the UT game went down, I started wondering if he was in over his head a la Gmac.

Glad to be wrong on that front!

Mine was a wait and see attitude. It is usually year 2 or 3 before you can tell if a football coach was a good hire or not. Matt was saying all the right things. The question was could he back it up? 3 years later most would agree that he has done quite well.

I didn’t hate the hire, but was disappointed when it was announced because I really wanted PJ Fleck.

Never been more happy to be proven wrong.
Holy **** PJ Fleck is insufferable to listen to talk. The guy literally says nothing of substance and takes coach speak to a whole other level.

I think the post was brought up last year. I believe I was happy with the hire.

Now, after year 1 I was not. Not because of the record, but because of some coaching decisions. I was wrong.

Weren’t you the one that thought we wouldn’t even be able to hire an assistant coach and would only be able to hire a position coach?

Right. Therefore, I was happy with the hire.

Really had nothing against it. I knew he had beaten some good teams.

I was definitely done with CPR though so that worked out.

"I hope this works."

I knew CMC had been very successful and recruited better than his station while at Toledo, so I was happy about that. He had lost in the MAC championship to PJ Fleck who was also rumored for the job. I read the Toledo board and while some questioned his in game calls, most were desperately hoping he stayed. So that was sort of a mixed bag for me. Most people there were hoping the ISU job rumors were untrue. When he brought almost all of his assistants over, I honestly felt we were in trouble. Glad to say I was totally wrong there.

Looking back now, if there was anything ISU needed most at the time it was probably consistency.
