I can't really believe what's happened in just two years.

I was just thinking back to how I felt about Cyclone football at kickoff of the Liberty Bowl in 2012, and how that compares to now.

When I do hiring I always analyze the applicant's ability to meet commitments. It would be a red flag to me.

Unless you're an NFL GM, you're bad at your job, I bet.

If you would consider him quitting a grueling sport like football a red flag in the business world, I hope you are replaced by someone who is less dumb.

There were rumblings last year the players were having issues with the coaches (running them into the ground, etc.) and that's why the "players council" was created. It sounded like Rhoads and the coaches may have changed their style but, based on today, maybe not.

Wasn't this the same reason Jensen left the team last year?

During the tailgate last Saturday, I was standing next to a parent of a staring O-Lineman. They stated that last year was not a good year for the kids under coach K. They also stated what a turn around this year has been and how much fun the players are really having playing for Blaney. So from a source more reliable than most on here, I think that theory is busted.

Next man in. Hopefully this leads to a positive for the team in the long run.

I can't entirely blame the guy, I have had bosses in the past who were pretty horrendous. You lose sleep and think about nothing but work. I wouldn't wish that on anyone if that is a similar scenario.

Dude, it doesn't surprise me there are people who think like you, but I was taught that if you commit to something, you stick it out until the end, especially if others are counting on you. Nobody faults the guy for leaving, again, it is the timing. This me-first state of mind is not conducive to team sports. If he was a tennis player, or shot putter, no one would give a rats ***, but he COMMITTED to something bigger than himself.

Many people are guilted into thinking this, and I was raised that way too, but it doesn't change that quitting is a perfectly rational thing to do. There are a million good reasons to quit something; is it really that difficult to envision a scenario in which it's more beneficial for the kid to leave rather than stay?

Define commitment. If he left the team to focus on academics isn't that a better commitment to his education?

Those would all be factors that would be balanced in the decision. But not finishing a commitment he made to others would be a mark against him.

And CycloneErik - I do internet searches on all applicants to see what I can find. That's pretty standard as far as I know.

LOLOLOL.

I'm pretty sure the fact that English is his first language will have him employed in about 8 minutes.

Also, I don't think any employer in the world would consider him quitting football to concentrate on his studies or begin his career a negative.

The context of this conversation was completing a computer science degree and getting a job.

These graduates become application developers who work in teams and face build deadlines on a regular basis. You can't tell me that quitting on the team after the first week of the season doesn't, at the very least, raise a question mark on how the kid will react when the team is behind and facing a tight deadline.

I've emphasized a very important word for you.

Apparently, he handled 4 years of deadlines very well. This shouldn't raise that question mark at all.

This is just supposition but he did get burned quite a bit in pass protection last weekend. I wonder if they were going to start Campos and maybe he didn't want to continue if he wasn't going to be the starrter.

We may have a winner, I thought he didn't look very good Saturday

It wouldn't cross the mind of anyone who is sane, I can tell you that.

Some of the most devoted football players that I played with are now scabs upon society. Some guys that I played with that quit are very successful people.

To judge a person off one instance in life is crazy.

Both our tackles were getting whipped last week. Surprises me that Dagel was but he was. Although Gan was getting beat on nearly every play. Just saying it how I saw it. I wish the kid well. If his hearts just not in it then it's best to move on.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that 1 of the starting 5 wasn't really having fun playing for Blaney.

Iowa State confirms that offensive lineman Jacob Gannon has left the team for personal reasons. #Cyclones

ISU OL Jacob Gannon has left the football team, according to team spokesman Mike Green.

As @TommyBirch first reported, 5th yr sr. OT Jacob Gannon has quit the ISU football team for personal reasons. Yikes. #Cyclones

Just got off the phone with now Former #Cyclone OL Jake Gannon, to simply state it he just got "burnt out". Heck of a kid, brilliant & nice.

Part of me doesn't blame him.

The better time to do this would have been before the season started, preferably before spring practices. It is hanging the teammates a little high and dry. I for one doubt that he would have done this had we beaten NDSU, but who knows.

It does signal to me however that Gannon at least does not believe that this season is going to amount to anything, or else he'd want to stick around for it. But again, I have no inside information, so who knows.

Best of luck to him, and I hope Campos is ready.
