what a joke, waste of money reallyl a tunnel that comes out to the side of the building?

I think Pollard said 30% of FBS teams do it. I agree that it's really weird, but if other places do it with little or no trouble than we should be able too. Maybe they will change sidelines in the future to prevent it.
I thought Rhoads said in a presser before the game that the seniors specifically asked to run through the inflatable tunnel one last time. I can understand that, since it's what they've done for 4-5 years. I'm guessing it will be different for next year.
It has more to do with season ticket holders who currently have seats behind the ISU bench.
There are a lot of pros to being on east side: you are the team that is constantly on television, you are the student section side not the visitors, you are on the side of where player family members get tickets, and I'm sure there are more.
West side? No sun and no longer have to cross the field.
I think the only way the team ever switches to the west is if the stadium is reseated which probably will only happen again with a south end zone expansion.

So....we need a longer tunnel clear to the bench to keep the other team from crossing. Make the other team go outside the stadium to get to their bench.
Can't we all just finally admit that our stadium has been a complete screw up basically ever since the day after it was built?
It couldn't have been thrown together any worse for the most part. Terrible planning by all those involved IMO. It's just a mess.
The Jacobsen building was probably the biggest mistake of all. It doesn't fit, looks terrible, and ruined any and all good plans for either bowling in the NEZ or putting a nice big athletic office complex to fill up that entire endzone versus having to build it 200 yds away from the stadium.
Then we put in this horrible looking scoreboard that doesn't fit in with anything either. It totally looks like a sign above the interstate. Ugly.
And now we put in this mess of a tunnel which is just stupid beyond belief. A tunnel itself is actually a great idea, but ours is awful. Supposedly we had to make it come out right behind the intersate sign support, but if that's really the case, then why even bother building the thing in the first place? Like someone said, it comes out behind a huge support and right into the side of one of the world's ugliest buildings.
If you are going to do a tunnel, do it right. If there are wires and pipes in the hill that are in the way, then I guess you need to find a way to move them. If not, don't do the project. It looks stupid.
And not only that, but now the teams not only have to cross paths to get to their locker rooms, but the opposing team walks out right in front of the students, which is not good either.
If you look straight at that NW hillside standing on the football field, the entire bottom 1/2 of that hillside should have been removed and made into a big concrete structure with a tunnel going through it which came out right at that corner of the endzone somewhere. Then you throw two big huge steel looking doors on it and make it look like a storm shelter/bunker that's built into the side of the hill. Even put some flashing red lights on either side of the doors to indicate a storm warning. Then, the two huge storm shelter doors open up and the football team comes running out.
And finally, at some point we need to put the TV cameras on the east side looking west so that our team can be on the west sideline next to the tunnel. And then finally, move the students to the sections next to the tunnel.
That's just my opinion.

Unfortunately, I agree. I would add they made the stands too far away from the field and at a horrible slope.
The new video boards is fine though.
I agree about the slope of the stands. I prefer to sit in the upper deck at Jack Trice versus anywhere in the lower deck. I just think you can see a lot better up there.
Here is the problem iowa state decided not to spend money on football really the whole athletic department until about 5 years ago. And it seems like they built a hole they cant get out of
The only major problem of game day experience for me is after the game is over and the frustration of exiting the parking lot. The same planning crew was at work on opening day at Newton on opening day of the race track. And if you were there you know what I mean. They need to turn it over to some small town FFA director and his kids to speed it up.
I agree the lower stands angle is too flat, on the other hand the old Metrodome in Minny's seating was so steep, I was afraid to stand up for fear of falling forward. The field crew that handles the cross-over situation needs to be on the field sooner to hold the players back. They were too late at Saturday's game and I think if they do their job its a non-issue. Again, maybe the small town FFA director could get a better response from the crew.

I just wish the tunnel extended all the way to the field. Hopefully in the future they can do this and maybe put up some permanent seating in front of the end zone too. Unlike some people, I really don't have a problem with the Jacobson building. It would make more sense to have it wider and hopefully close to the field, but Pollard didn't really have a say when it was built. Since he's been at Iowa State he has made it look pretty decent and I think fits the game day environment well.
