1997 : Con te partiró (I will leave with you) Andrea Bocelli

When I'm alone I dream on the horizon
Quando sono solo sogno all'orizzonte

And the words are missing
E mancan le parole

Yes, I know there is no light
Si lo so che non c' luce

In a room when there is no sun
In una stanza quando manca il sole

If you are not there with me, with me
Se non ci sei tu con me, con me
Up the windows
Su le finestre

Show everyone my heart that you have access
Mostra a tutti il mio cuore che hai accesso

Close inside me
Chiudi dentro me

The light you met on the street
La luce che hai incontrato per strada
Time to say goodbye countries I never have
Time to say goodbye paesi che non ho mai

Seen and lived with you now yes I will live them
Veduto e vissuto con te adesso si li vivro

With you I will leave on ships for seas that, I know
Con te partiro su navi per mari che, io lo so

No, no, they no longer exist, it's time to say goodbye
No, no, non esistono piu, it's time to say goodbye
When you are far away I dream on the horizon
Quando sei lontana sogno all'orizzonte

And words fail
E mancane le parole

And I know that you are with me, with me
E io s lo so che sei con me, con me

You my moon you are here with me
Tu mia luna tu sei qui con me

My sun you are here with me, with me, with me, with me
Mio sole tu sei qui con me, con me, con me, con me
Time to say goodbye countries I never have
Time to say goodbye paesi che non ho mai

Seen and lived with you now I will live them
Veduto e vissuto con te adesso s li vivro

With you I will leave on ships for seas that, I know
Con te partiro su navi per mari che, io lo so

No, no, they no longer exist with you I will relive them
No, no, non esistono piu con te io li rivivro
With you I will leave on ships for seas that, I know
Con te partiro su navi per mari che, io lo so

No, no, they no longer exist with you I will relive them
No, no, non esistono pi con te io li rivivro

I'll leave with you
Con te partiro
Me with you
Io con te

Behind you
If nothing else (and there's more here than nothing else) the sonic mind-f*** of the "You don't remember/you don't remember" segment (and subsequent music freakout) is legendary.
It still is a Cyclone State.

"Off with his head man, off with his head!"

I know to Radiohead purists it's sacrilege but I kind of prefer the live version of that song just to see Jonny Greenwood go off on guitar.

Titanic Soundtrack

James Horner composed the soundtrack for the movie Titanic which, for the video entertaiment world, defined 1997. Only one track was released as a single, the epherial My heart must go on:

The story of Rose was the fabric of the story as told through the movie through her memories of the tragically brief affair aboard the ill fated voyage:

Janet Jackson - Velvet Rope

This work was during the Hay Day of Janet's partnership with the Minneapolis based team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Maybe this was not so much part of your 1997 experience, but it will take you back.

Got til it's gone is an urban tribute to a Carly Simon hit from the early 70s. An easy listening bit of Russian doll nostalgia, if you will:

And in Go Deep , Janet charms her way into the house of an unsuspecting fan where they hold an all night, care free party. In the middle, the young host picks up a phone handset, and it hits you how stressful these smart phone inventions really are. Why can you not just lose yourself in the moment without the constant threat of interruption? Back then, we just did it without wondering why:

Supergrass - In It For the Money

Love this band. One of my all time favorites. Early album, but catalog over the years is so deep and solid.

One of my favorite albums to come out during 1997 that hasn't been named yet is Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse.

I love the intro of Doin' the Cockroach

Polar Opposites is a great tune in the vein of quiet to loud transition.

Bankrupt on Selling is a great closing tune.

... and my absolute favorite Trailer Trash. One of the first MM songs I was able to figure out on guitar, it's an absolute banger of a tune.

Another favorite album from 1997 is Pavement's Brighten the Corners.

I really enjoy the transitions in Stereo.

Shady Lane shows the softer side of Pavement.

Starlings of the Slipstream echoes what a lot of Stephen Malkmus' solo career would sound like.

My favorite song on the album is definitely Blue Hawaiian. Just a super chill song.

I probably like this more now than I did at the time. TFC has had element of Byrds influence almost from the get-go ... this one almost TOO Byrds-ish in spots (not necessarily a bad thing, but more honorary than innovative). Even so, still has a lot of cool tracks.
