I hesitated to go find this song on you tube for fear it would result in an ear worm. It exemplifies just about everything I dislike about late 70's/80's pop/rock (sorry, to all those who came of age in that era): pedantic keyboards, pretentious guitar riffs and vocals. Little in the way of creativity. It sounds like a series of hooks designed to be played endlessly on the radio. And to my regret, they succeeded.

Nuh-unh, Tony Soprano got taken out to this tune!!! Fuggedahboudit.

Some these choices are killing me but not going to give a disagree rating because it goes against our overall group ideal of keeping this thread a place of positivity.

Sorry I made you sad a time or two, Rulzzz (even though you're just totes wrong about the Beach Boys).

Was in HS when this hit, never have liked it. Just seems slow and boring.

Can't say as I disagree. I especially hated it when it first came out. But I have a Bobby McFerrin story.

Years ago I had a co-worker whose car broke down as she was driving around Lake of the Isles. It was a cold blustery day and as this was before the days of ubiquitous cell phones she found herself knocking on a door to ask to use the phone. The door opened and it was none other than Bobby McFerrin. He was very gracious not only inviting my co-worker in to use the phone but offering her a hot drink while she waited for help to arrive. He was nothing but a welcoming gentleman to the stranger who appeared at his door.

The story kind of softened me on the song because she said he was just like the tenor of the song - positive and welcoming.

Can't stand when this comes on in Mrs. Velo's or daughter's feed. Terrible.

Do your ladies play this one? (can't say that I hate it, but wouldn't cross the street to listen to it - would cross the street to get away from it) (if I lived in town, that is)

Might as well. Probably less likely to do immediate knob-grab today compared to 20+ years ago.

Personal/professional note: I did phone interviews (separately) w/ Brian VanderArk and Donnie Brown (then-drummer) to preview a local show, late-2000s-ish. Good conversations, Brown seemed more at-ease. Attendance for the show was underwhelming and response not overly-enthusiastic. I thought the set was solid, for the most part.
