For the record, my above post was cynical. I was making light of people who use these excuses.

If your post was serious, then I recommend you to stay at home. If you enjoyed the atmosphere 10 years ago better than now.......well, I don't know what to say.
Has a lot to do with where I was at in life then as opposed to now I think. I certainly will try again, taking some of the things @2speedy1 and putting them into practice.

I'll try to make a long story short, but we were running late, far too late to tailgate and find decent or even half decent parking. Walked the aforementioned thirty minutes after driving around for probably that long looking for parking. Had the toddler old with us. Just not ideal conditions. Will be more prepared next time, and maybe older and wiser

Yeah, preparing really helps.
The grass lots being closed unless you had a prepaid parking ticket really hurt things. With a young child I am sure it would get stressful, and to be fair we have not taken my 2 youngest to the games yet, but have to basketball. Been planning on getting them JrCy memberships but just keep putting it off each year.

The weather Saturday was strange, it was cool/rainy, then was Sunny Hot and muggy in the stands for a while, then cool cloudy, it made it hard to regulate.

The game was definitely slower paced than some.

My oldest is in college now, transferring to ISU next year, and loves going.

I have been in your shoes, not planning parking well, having to walk farther than expected being short on time etc. And I will say I do enjoy the away games that I get to relax in my recliner and TV. But I have found even some games when I dont do an all out tailgate, I take some chairs, get a box of subs from Jimmy Johns or similar, and cooler of drinks, head in early and enjoy the pregame activities.

Some tips:
If you go to Cyclones.com and click on Football tix, you can click the single day tix and see a link to parking tix. This has tix for single day parking, both resale and from the University. Some you will see from Donors for prices they set, and some you will see for the gen admission spots for the amount the University sets.
You can buy these and have a spot when you arrive, it will be on your phone just like your game tix. Gen admission is $25.

Come early and stay late, really helps with the traffic. If you pack some food, drinks, chairs etc, this makes relaxing before and after much more enjoyable, even if you dont go all out for a tailgate.

Seek out other friends you know that are there. If you arent able to set up a tailgate, maybe you can join someone else's just make sure to pitch in, Having a group always makes it more fun. Talk to them ahead of time ask where they are tailgating, if you can join, what you can bring, food, drinks etc. offer to pitch in $.

If you are hot, tired, cold, whatever, take a break, head to the concourse, or just call it a day. Dont let it ruin your experience and therefore not want to try again. Sometimes it is what it is, bad weather, bad day, whatever, its ok to call it a day if it would make you or someone with you feel better, and not so miserable they never want to come back.

Hopefully someday your kid(s) and you will have some lasting memories of game days at Iowa State.

Duh!
Some of the students had already left for Thanksgiving week break, especially ones taking the buses to some of the bigger nearby cities.

We went back to Helser after the game to pick up our son and his stuff and the dorms were unusually off the chain crazy.
I remember they were running a special on tix for that game. I bought like 8 and donated them to the Boy & Girls Club of Ames. I like to think the karma helped.

I felt like I aged a year during the 2nd half of the Ohio game. Every injury timeout turned into a media timeout and the crowd collectively groaned every time they announced it.
I was a weird game, it seemed to last forever and was boring at times. The vibe was off, but I assume the The Jack will be back this Saturday.

Coming back to the region I found the two strategies suggested by 2speedy1 the best to ease back into enjoying the day.

We started by getting there a little early and finding friends. If the weather + game were cruddy we left a little early and found an old haunt to watch the rest of the game.

Now we have season tiks, do our own tailgate, etc. Even so, we still periodically have days where showing up a little later and joining friends is the right thing to do for life-life balance.

Has JT become like Hilton where people expect every game to be some magical life changing experience and if not, it's just not the same?

Beating a bad MAC team like a decent P5 team should, shouldn't generate very much excitement.

I do hope people get out there this week though and get after Baylor.

I totally understand. Haha, when you're younger you think a long half hour walk is pointless and a waste of time.

As you get older, (I'm mid 60's now) you welcome these opportunities. You even think, 'how can I get more of these walks in'! Funny but true. And half hour walks are short.

Your perspective changes, but I get it. :)
I don't mind the walk at all, but I could understand if some people have a harder time doing it.

I still say the commercial breaks are too many and/or too long. They need to vary how long they are, to keep the flow moving better. Having 3:30 breaks constantly slows the game down and the action. It would be better to mix some 1 minute breaks, instead of every one being 3:30, it would also slightly shorten the game length.

don't know if it's espn+ or what but damn.

my seats are directly up from the dude who wears the orange gloves that signals tv timeout or not and I watch him more after plays than anything else.

he mentions we've, "been blitzing more" than in years past.

is that true? I thought CW said we hardly blitzed that first game. I rewatched and saw maybe 3/4 times. not sure on Iowa/Ohio

would be neat to see the % that we bring blitzes.

To be honest, I'm a little nervous about Remsburg. Do I think he's arguably our best offensive linemen? Yes, yes I do. But he's also been out with injury so long - rust has to be a factor and Baylor isn't exactly a push over. Its why I was hoping he could have played a series or two against Ohio. Totally understand why he didn't and why they held him out. But in a huge game - the rust factor makes me a tad nervous - although I am super excited he's back because I think he's a potential NFL draft prospect at tackle and the offensive line should only get better from him being there.

But the good definetely out-ways the nervousness and am excited to see Jake out there

Anecdotally, I'd say yes, we've been more aggressive blitzing this season. And in the Iowa game, we moved McDonald over the center and effectively switched up when he was coming and when he was spying/dropping into coverage. Felt like we sent the corners more against Ohio.

It felt like our blitzes last season weren't as creative and we relied on Rose blitzing the A gap a lot.

So I guess I'd say our blitzing has been more varied this season. I'm not sure on frequency.

I haven't analyzed every game like Aranda most definitely has done, but I do think we blitzed a lot at Iowa. I think that was more a product of their inept offense and our lack of respect for them to beat us deep than us changing the way we do things.

I wonder if by blitzing CW meant sending 4 or more right away. I’ve noticed Reader delayed blitzing a lot after reading his responsibility and then joining the rush. I had been kind of confused by CW’s comment on that as well, because Reader joined the rush at least 4 times by my count in the SEMO game alone.
