At the same time - I liked having a league game where I felt like we could roll a ball out there and win 48-7. Less stress is always good

I like to record the games and watch them when I get home from attending said game.
I'm not going to try to count them all, but it looks like ~1,500. So probably 60,000 in attendance, which would be a sell out in half the Big 12 and roughly 10 years ago the largest home crowd in ISU history. Probably not something that we need to worry about too much.
I love being in Ames with thousands of Iowa State fans on a fall Saturday, but I won't be making it to a game this season for the first time in a long time. Nobody want to go anymore, and it doesn't have much to do with the team. The casual new fan that has come on board in the last 8-9 years has very little interest in going to an Iowa State game these days, unfortunately. Anecdotal, but that's been my experience. I can get a handful of grads to go, but more casual fans in Des Moines would rather watch at home/at a bar.
See, that's strange to me since with the renovations, and the better product, you'd think people would want to go. Obviously with the pandemic, etc - I can understand why some would be cautious going back.
This is one game I have a really hard time getting a grip with just because of that random Baylor speed guy making a big play factor.
Sellouts can be negative too, puts more pressure on the team to perform. A slightly under capacity crowd with a really rowdy attitude is what I would like to see. If CMC had it his way he would probably prefer no fans in the stands, not seriously most likely but he remarked how much he loved covid year with less to no fans.
A lot of people I know don't know about the better product. It's unfortunate, but there is still a perception of Ames/ISU games as boring. And then you have to sit in the stadium for 4.5 hours with a much worse view of the game than if you were at home.
I don't get it. Setting up even a modest tailgate in the grass lots is a blast. The stadium and atmosphere are lightyears ahead of when I grew up going to games in the 90s and 00s. You make your own fun. Too many people want the experience dropped in their laps, which is why they prefer bars and TV.
I can't make this game due to my kids stuff Saturday AM.

This is an ongoing trend across virtually all sports nationwide. Going to a game is time consuming, expensive, and often stressful. It's hard to compete with the comfort of free food & drinks, a private bathroom, A/C, and a giant TV.
I probably know a dozen people that have stopped getting season tickets in the past 2-4 years because of the time commitment, ability to tailgate in their driveway with a 70+ inch TV, get to watch other games before/after, and don't have to deal with the traffic. These are people that have owned tickets from roughly the 90's.
Game day is unique and awesome, but there are obvious and increasing reasons to avoid for both the younger and older fans. It's unfortunate, but you see it at programs large and small.
Places like Florida are even struggling to fill seats. They had probably 3K empty seats when they hosted Top 20 Kentucky earlier this season. Auburn had probably 8-10K empty seats when hosting Penn State (somewhat understandable given their recent struggles). Washington had probably 4-6K empty seats when hosting Top 15 Michigan State. I don't know if those were sold tickets that no-showed or non-sold tickets, but both impact concessions, retail, etc.
It's going to be increasingly harder to fill stadiums because of the above reasons, ever-increasing costs, asks to donate to NIL, realignment impacts to rivalries, etc. A very hard reality when we're better than we've ever been on the field.
Does anyone think we might see Quaron Adams soon, perhaps against Baylor? Use his speed as a weapon or threat?
Edit: And I'd bet he looks upon that time with a good degree of pride. Taking an unfortunate world pandemic, and making the most of it. He is certainly proud of the sacrifices his team at the time, and coaches, had to make, to try to stay healthy and be eligible to play. And the success we/he had that year.
I think MattC is one to 'go with the flow', or stay positive in the moment, make lemon-aid out of lemons, etc, kind of guy. But yeah, I don't think he was totally serious, if he said that.

I haven’t heard any of the coaches mention Quaron off the cuff so far, nor have I heard anyone ask about him on any of the interviews—though I still have to catch up on the radio coaches shows.
There may be something going on with him health wise. Looking at his HS track events, he missed about half the season this last spring. Which seems unusual for an elite sprinter to me.
Agreed though Florida at times has had problems - and given that they are coming some decent turmoil of their own that is not entirely surprising. Washington - IDK for sure but I never got the impression that Washington sells out. Loud, yes - sell outs, IDK.
That's one of the things I miss about the older days is the crowds. Its the main reason I am planning on getting back into being a season ticket holder. but again, im just a single dude without kids / wife etc so its fairly easy for me
This - some of the best Saturdays of my young life (till middle school aged) was when my grandpa would pick me up early Saturday morning, take me down to Ames, tail gate, eat the chicken , smell the dew and everything, have a funnel cake and watch some football - even if it was at times quite bad football.
I certainly can understand the reasons - the only one I don't get is the not wanting the experience over sitting on the couch. I can't wait till next year where hopefully life finally stops being a hot mess and I can get back to JTS more than once or twice a year.
One of the reasons Matt Campbell came to ISU was because of the crowd support and atmosphere.
Are you watching the games at a food shelf? I have yet to find free food and drinks. Just sayin'.
