Here's a trip down memory lane. Hilton Magic 1993! It's funny to see how different Cy looked back then. This was possibly my favorite ISU team of all time - Hoiberg, Meyer, Michalik, Thigpen, Bayless, Beechum, Hayes etc... and a legendary coach!

I'd do almost anything to be old enough to have seen a Johnny Orr team in Hilton.

I'd give anything if I had been smart enough to have got season tix when I was there (graduated in 94). Only went to one game while I was a student, JO was still coaching.

Observations:
"This is one Hilton where all visitors are NOT welcome"
Julo is one of my favorite all time players. Nobody hit more awkward 10 foot runners than Julo.
This years team could use a banger with the size of Loren Meyer.
Hester sighting!

This guy^ is willing to give up his youth to watch Johnny. Instead, why not have Johnny make a comeback during the awful McDermott years (kind of like Tom Davis did in resurrecting Drake momentarily). It's a win-win. We all see Johnny coaching again and no one suffers through that dark half decade of ISU BB.

Not exactly sure.
The team was wearing a black strap on their shoulders. Wonder who had passed away?

It it was for chris streit.

in fact after his death, an iowa native iowa state player wore his number each year. That why Fred had a different number one year

I did not know this, but did look up the recent players.
The last time any ISU player was #40 was 2007-08
07 - Mark Currie - Odebolt, IA
06 - Ross Marsden - Ames, IA
05 - Ross Marsden - Ames, IA
04 - Dave Braet - Calamus, IA
03 - Dave Braet - Calamus, IA
02 - Brad Davis - Knoxville, IA
01 - Brad Davis - Knoxville, IA
00 - Brad Davis - Knoxville, IA
99 - No Cyclone
98 - Klay Edwards - Morning Sun, IA (Winfield-Mt Union)
97 - Klay Edwards - Morning Sun, IA (Winfield-Mt Union)
96 - Klay Edwards - Morning Sun, IA (Winfield-Mt Union)
95 - Klay Edwards - Morning Sun, IA (Winfield-Mt Union)
94 - Klay Edwards - Morning Sun, IA (Winfield-Mt Union)
Chris passed in 1993, so this string would have started with the 93-94 season, which was Fred's junior year. I can't find the 93-34 roster, so maybe Fred wore it that year.

Hoiberg and Meyer both wore it after Street passed away.

Any idea why they quit the tradition?

That's a great question for the Applebees call in show.

Also, Hawks haven't suited up a #40 since before the 2006-07 season.

I think we both stopped the same year. I think it has something probably to do with the fact that college age kids now dont know who he was, even if youre from Iowa. I do, I was 10 when he passed, but much before that, I dont think it would mean much to kids now a days.

Julo is now coaching our girls' varsity basketball team here in Fort Dodge. He was like Niang - a matchup nightmare. Could shoot a 3-ball, too.
