Let’s also not pretend one can’t say a team is “a FF team” and still be happy with another Sweet 16
We still are “a FF team” imo. Given we had 6th or 7th best odds going into last NCAA, were then, too
There are way more than 4 teams that are of the quality to say “this is a FF team” given the crapshoot nature of the NCAA Tournament for all but outliers.
At one point we were mentioned as favorites for the FF by CBB analysts, yet would you have bet anything significant on it?

I think tournaments are going to see struggles upcoming with attendance, etc. they just really don’t matter. Seeding is basically decided. So, if you want to have fun inKC, by all means go. But the big picture impact of those conference tournaments just aren’t that important ( to teams already in the tournament that is).
Wheels have fallen off??? Drama much?? I’ll go with what Frachilla said a few weeks ago. We are top 15-20 talent wise and culture was pushing us to top 5. We have now settled into where we should be. A 3-5 seed in the tournament able to do some damage if things go well.
First half lost us the game. As JW said, we allowed them to come out and dictate how the game was going to go and then we basically crawled to a corner and cried about it. Ending the half by them going on a 12-2 run.
Second half was better, but we still fell flat on some critical possessions where we had a poor turnover or a poor shot selection. Tamin played awful basically all game long. Watching Jefferson was like watching a grade schooler handle the ball. Our passing angles into the post were pathetic and led to numerous turnovers. We weren’t tight with the ball. Defensively we didn’t get back on defense and didn’t box out well. Just a bad bad game.
We shouldn’t have needed Keshon for that game but it’s not shocking him not being out there hurt us. Getting him back will help a lot on both ends. Win the next 3 and we can jump up to the 2 line again, but the 3 line seems more likely, which is fine. If we beat Arizona and BYU we’ll also likely get 3rd in the Big 12 which also is good. Do that and it’ll be a good regular season with everything to play for in the post season.

The way we are playing we will be lucky to maintain a fourth seed. We have Arizona, BYU and a road trip to KSU, that is looking very likely a 1-2 stretch.
The thing that separates the good from the great teams is the great teams can go on the road and still play at a high level. They understand everyone is gunning for them and embrace the challenge. That is what KU used to be able to do and what Houston is doing now. They are not perfect, but do not lose at home, and go 6-2. 5-3 on the road. Since the Arizona loss this team has lost its mojo, and have struggled to maintain or get up of lesser teams, instead of burying them.
We also have not had anyone that was not playing really step up to become a solid player, Watson looked very good early when he got a chance for a few minutes, but then he goes back to the bench the next game and stopped getting quality minutes and his performance has dropped. The other two bigs off the bench or all or nothing, one game they play great, disappear the next game.
I’ll actually throw in there that Nate has played very well as of late.
I thought when they got it to 4 and 5 points there was kind of an 'Ok, we're good' vibe since they've pulled ahead in other games and finished it off in similar situations. Same with the last 4 of the first half.
Credit to OSU: they increased their intensity and ISU seemed to sit back and think things would take care of themselves.
Yeah they played their best game of the year. And credit to them for that. We just didn’t bring it throughout the whole game and you cannot have that. It was very disappointing to see. You don’t need to kill those teams because **** does happen in college basketball, but you do need to win them.
Even if the worst happens, ISU won't be seen as a Cinderella. It'll be that middle ground, neither favorite, nor underdog. If they put a run together, the analysis will be that a beaten up team got healthy and has returned to the form that made them a top 5 team.
This is why I have some optimism for tournament play. Having the team play like they were earlier in the season + having Heise knock down a couple three pointers a game will go a long way to determine how far ISU will advance in the NCAA tournament
I think the team will refocus for the tournaments. We've seen TJ's squads hit this wall around this time of year before. I'm optimistic they can refocus again this year
They've never been that important. As a KU fan I consider the Big 12 tournament down the line a ways. First is what you do in the NCAA, 2nd is the Big 12 regular season, 3rd Pre-conference big games like Duke or UK and 4th Big 12 Tourney. But that doesn't mean it's not a lot of fun. Probably the best conference tournament atmosphere in the country, especially if your a cyclone fan. If ISU gets healthy they have a very good chance to win that tourney and definitely one of the 8-10 teams capable of making it to the FF.
We will refocus. I’m not worried about that. I think we’ll bounce back. I’m just pissed off and annoyed as I’m sure everyone else is.
Dribbling into traffic or hurrying possessions no matter how many times the ball turns over is the definition of hitting your head against the wall.
I'm going to disagree with this. We smoked TCU, then won a tough road game at UCF, followed by controlling Cincinnati and Colorado the entire 40 minutes.
Everything was on track until last Friday when Gilbert and Jones were ruled out. Jones looked like he's still recovering from the flu which could take a few more days.
You just hope this stuff stops happening at some point and we can have our entire team available for a solid stretch. Do that and we have Final 4 potential. Keep having injuries and illness 3 weeks from now and we won't make it past the first weekend.
I think it's pretty obvious our bench players cannot handle being put in a more important role.
He is now starting to look for his shoot, but it's never both of them at the same time. We get production from one of the back ups and nothing from the other. To get to the FF, everyone has to produce at a high rate, not just a few.
We’re not dribbling with a plan. Get to the ******* rim if you’re going to go by your guy. We also need to tighten the reigns on Jefferson. I want him catching the ball down low making moves I do not want him catching the ball 20 feet away and then doing it.
Chat also looked good the last three games before this one. He didn’t look horrible in there last night he just got into foul trouble. No one played very well last night outside of Nate. I’ll maybe give Jefferson the second half nod but his first half essentially negated that. Tamin was piss poor and Milan was just as bad. Curtis played like he was coming off an illness so I’m not going to be too critical. You can’t have your main guys all play bad and expect to win any game.
