Oregon is in their 6[SUP]th[/SUP] Elite Eight and their first since 2007 when they lost to Florida 85-77. They are 1-4 all-time in the Elite Eight.

Dana Altman advances to the Elite Eight for the first time in 13 tournaments. He was second all-time for the most tournament appearances with no Elite Eights.

Dana Altman passes Ernie Kent as the winningest tournament coach in Oregon history with 7.

Oregon is a tournament best 7-0 when playing in California.

Duke is now 0-3 when playing in California. Only New Mexico State has a worse record at 0-4. All 3 of Duke’s losses have been in Anaheim in the Sweet Sixteen.

LOL Oregon hit an un-needed 3 when duke called off the dogs.

Will the same people who complain about Kansas guys doing it complain about Oregon?

It was also a stupid deep three. More luck than skill that he made it

Brooks offers Allen a postgame embrace. Allen shoves him away. That's the pure class move right there.

It's mean of me, but I hope Allen declares for the draft, goes high, and then tears an ACL in his first game. Talk about an unlikeable player in every sense of the word.

I don't like Allen, but I can't say I'd embrace Brooks either there.

I enjoy your tourney facts.

Allen is the basketball version of Manziel, no difference.

The average margin of victory for the 4 games was 16.75. It ties the largest margin of victory for the Thursday Sweet Sixteen games since 1978 when the tournament went to the Thursday/Friday format for Sweet Sixteen games. Last year’s margin of victory was 16.25 on Thursday.

It is only the second time in which all 4 higher seeds won by double digits on a single day in the Sweet Sixteen. The other time was 1995, also on Thursday.

Shot clock on vs off and Duke still at least nominally playing D vs Maryland already heading over for handshakes. Ultimately it doesn't really matter but still, do the classy thing and just hand the ball to the official if you're Mason.

Some good teams lost tonight. Not sure if that makes me more nervous or excited for tomorrow.

So rarely does every #1 seed advance..........

Trying to find stats on that, i found a post on reddit from 2014 prior to that tournament

All four #1 seeds have made the Elite Eight 7 of 29 tournaments, or 24.1%, since expansion to 64 teams in 1985.
Three of the #1 seeds have made the Elite Eight 11 of 29 tournaments, or 37.9%.
Two of the #1 seeds have made the Elite Eight 8 of 29 tournaments, or 27.6%.
One of the #1 seeds have made the Elite Eight 3 of 29 tournaments, or 10.3% (2000, 2011, 2013).
There has not been an NCAA tournament without a #1 seed in the Elite Eight since expansion.

Since these numbers, we've had one year with 2 1 seeds in the elite 8 and another year with 3.

So the updated number would be

7/31- All 4 made the elite 8 (22.5%)
12/31-3 made the elite 8 (38.7%)
9/31 - 2 made the elite 8 (29%)
3/31- 1 made the elite 8 (9.6%)

Oregon indicated they were going to run out the clock; Duke backed off to let them. The only reason why Duke wasn't shaking hands was because there was still a shot clock in play. If you're going to be ****** about the layup, you should also be ****** about the 40-ft 3.

Way up there
Buddy has been pretty quiet so far, I think with a team like Oregon who pushes the pace, he could be do for a big game Saturday.

  • Duke becomes the first team to lose by 14 or more twice in the tournament the year after winning a championship. They lost by 16 to Arizona in 2011. They join UConn as the only teams to lose by double digits twice the year after winning the title. UConn lost to Tennessee by 14 in 2000 and Iowa State by 13 in 2012.
