Yeah but it seems if you have an open one it leaves room to grab a mid year transfer because there always seems to be a couple good ones and not everyone has room.

I know this is the excuse a lot of people use, but is there really that many transfers mid-season, much less ones we actually land? Last one I remember us grabbing was Burton and I can't remember the next one previous to that. Maybe I'm wrong with my memory. Regardless, it seems the odds of us actually landing a mid-year transfer seems to be less anyway than the odds that either one of our guys never makes it to campus or a different one leaving within months of getting here. If either of those happens, we end up with a free scholly anyway without having to bank one.

When is the last time we took a mid year transfer? Burton? And like once before that with McKay?

Holding a scholarship for this type of rare occurrence isn’t necessary.

I think in this day in age, you always fill. Now...that said...try to fill with quality character guys. Don’t just fill a spot with some slap **** head case.

There is as much of a chance that ISU has someone transfer at mid-semester to opening a spot.
Bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. I doubt any mid year transfer would be better then Enaura/Fletcher.

Well if they get both, then yeah, I am just thinking if they get one of them.

We were able to get THT because Prohm banked one the year before. It works with HS kids too not just mid-year guys.

I think we're probably all ok banking a scholly if we're unable to fill it with someone the staff thinks can contribute.

But passing on immediate talent and hoping something falls into our lap mid-season after last season's results wouldn't make sense.

In a perfect world I would add another shooter and a rebound specialist. Feels like we could use the Vitale type player on our team to add a little grit and pound the glass. Plus we could always use more shooting, though I worry about the backup PG spot and the amount of turnovers our current backups are prone to. That said, you got to like where this team is headed.

IMO the days of banking scholarships are over. Maybe a coach doesn't fill all 13 scholarships because the players he offers go elsewhere.

The explosion of the transfer portal is/will be a 2 edged sword. It gives players the ability to transfer without sitting out. IMO an unintended consequence is it also makes it easier for coaches to push deep bench players out.

Doesn't he have like 8 scholarships to fill? I love him at the X's and O's.. But he hasn't landed a single high caliber player. We shall see if Otz or Smith is in a better position in 2023/24
Idk if he’s a high caliber player but Dave Jenkins was a solid pickup for him

You'll have to add Moser, Fred, Beilein, and Motta to contest at well.
