3-6 against the top 100 isn't bad compared to other bubble teams. It would put us squarely on the bubble most years, and on the "in" side of the bubble in this really weak bubble year. (or, just where we thought we were)
To be fair the doomsdayers are no different than the people who want to compare this years team to the Fizer/Tinsley years. Irrationality can be positive as well.
and I have a good source how says Royce indeed hates kittens
No one is really taking into account the wildcard of the conference tournament results. The more teams that get in because they won a conference tournament (that have at large teams in their conference) the less open spots there will be. If there are several of those and we finish with 20 wins I will be very nervous - the fewer there are the better things will look. So.... basically we need to win 22 games (including conference tournament) and make it too difficult to not pick us.
I still think 21 gets ISU in with a decent level of comfort. But if there is a massive amount of auto-bid shock in conferences with at-large locks like you describe, it's back to sweating a bit.
22 wins and it's over-the-hump with certainty —*4-1 from here, regardless of W-L combination, because of our current resume and remaining teams on the schedule.
. . .
just 3 wins against the top 100 in rpi and just two in the top 50. that's not good if the committee really does look at overall picture regardless of conference.
. . .
I really think that is accurate but disingenuous.
Record vs top:
1-5 ISU is 1-1 -- very good
6-11 ISU is 0-3 -- neutral because they're so high
12-50 ISU is 1-1 -- fine.
51-65 ISU is 1-1 -- would be nice to be 2-0 but Drake was very early in the season.
65-100 ISU is 0-0 -- this really skews the "wins vs. top 100" stat.
100-125 ISU is 3-2 -- not great but . . .
126-330 ISU is 12-0 -- taking care of business.
Pat Forde likes ISU to make the tourney. Just need to take care of OU and Tech and we SHOULD be in. (video below.)

NC State choked last night. They weren't expected to win, I'm sure, but that would have pretty much locked them in.
