Pac-12 to decide whether to expand within a couple weeks

I do think that given the Big 12 took a position on tortious interference with OuT, there isn't much the members can do in searching out exit strategies right now.

The Big 12 is making a play for a settlement right now. On their end, what comes after has to wait.

Not exactly sure.
There is talk of lawsuits now, any competent individual in an AD of a school or conference office will not mention the big XII unless it’s irrelevant or absolutely necessary. Even Gary Barta knows better than that and most people think he’s an idiot. Hearing nothing about us now is better than hearing anything. This is the way pending or potential litigation works. So be patient and ride it out. The less we hear the better.

This implies that media rights only apply to a school’s home games. If so, that’s interesting but not my understanding. I’d like to hear more about this detail.
From my understanding is that the home team owns the media rights for games. When Iowa plays on 9/11 we own them. Why Nebraska vs CU games at NU can be played on the big ten network. Big XII owns the games at ISU and OU still since they are in the big XII.

Is any credible media figure reporting that any Pac/B1G/ACC sources have interest in the Big 12? I haven’t heard about one. And you would think there would be some anonymous source who would tell the Dan Patricks and Dennis Dodds that they have some interest.

It’s probably not a “They’re just saying this now so OU and UT have to pay” because there would at least be some anonymous rumblings, right?

At some point when every single report is the same about their lack of interest, the most likely outcome becomes apparent. I definitely hope I’m wrong but I’m just facing reality. Someone share a single credible report (Greg Swaim types excluded) that says my source in the Pac-12 thinks they could grab four Big 12 schools, as
I would love to see it if it exists.

I've read a number of posts like yours and its clear that a number of people on CF have never been part of Merger & Acquisition teams for corporations. What is happening right now is exactly how you typically see in M&A activity; silence, denial, despair, etc. Then BOOM, it's announced. Sure there are some leaks from time to time, but typically these things are quiet until they're not. We're fine. "Silence is Golden".

When the AD's start getting loud and annoying, then you should be concerned because it shows they're concerned.

Like Kirby Hocutt at Tech?

Thanks, that’s interesting. And I agree with your earlier point that there is no way OU and UT would agree to play all the tough SEC teams on the road for 3 years.

Why would Mizzou leave the SEC for the Big 10? They have been in the conference since 2011, they are about to have more money that they ever dreamed start to roll in, and as much as people think the academics in the SEC are not that bad.
Mizzou to the Big10 makes a lot of sense for Mizzou. The Big10 was Mizzou's first choice 10 years ago. But the Big10 wasn't interested. Not sure why.

A big reason Mizzou would still have Big10 interest is rivalries. I just don't see them having established that big-time rival in the SEC.

In the Big10 Mizzou would have Nebraska, Illinois and I'm sure Hawk fans would live to HATE Mizzou.

Also think that adding ISU, KU and Mizzou to Big 10 could be intriguing.

That's not being "loud and annoying" and certainly shows no signs of panic.

It’s certainly not being quiet while everything works out in our favor behind the scenes. It’s obvious Hocutt had no clue that the alliance was happening and no inclination that it was a good thing for Tech. That is not a positive development.

OU & UT hid this for 6 months before it leaked, so I would guess these conferences could have a pretty tight ship.

I could see this, but it doesn’t seem like national media are hearing “nothing” - they are actively hearing from Pac-12/B1G sources that those leagues are not interested. Could be obfuscation, or could just be the truth.

Many in the national media have an agenda that predetermines their interpretation of anything they hear (or think they hear).

I spend as much time in Mo. as I do Ia. and the Mizzou football fan is very pleased and content with being in the SEC. Kansas City basketball fans miss playing KU and the Norm Stewart years but Mizzou basketball has regressed. Pinkel did well in the SEC and the SEC influence has helped their recruitment, they send their share into the NFL annually. Additionally, they do have a rivalry with Arkansas. The administration at the time may have wanted in the Big 10 but not so with the fans.

Dan whoever and Dennis Dodds whoever etc...while connected...I can guarantee have not spoken with the decision makers for the PAC or BIG and that is University President's. Make no mistake...at end of the day it is the Univ President's who make this decision..

in 2016 the PACN had 14 million subscribers. By contrast in 2014 the BIG Network had an estimated 60 Million subscribers in 2014..

I cannot fathom any scenario where the Consultant group for the PAC tells the PAC "It is in the conferences best interest financially to not expand".

Adding 4 central time zone schools from the A8 alone would probably increase PACN subscriber base by at least 30%...at a minimum.

Kinda hard to improve your brand when 2/3 of the country cant and doesnt watch your content.

Except a G5 school. There are enough G5 votes to keep this idea from happening. So it is illogical.
Today G5 have a voice. With the NCAA constitutional convention this fall and weakening if NCAA, the G5 could go the route of UNI level

i know you won’t ever understand through your pain, but him doing that says two things 1) he’s worried about his school’s prospects, and 2) he’s really worried about his schools prospects.

again, I know the pain of heart break doesn’t allow you to see these things clearly, but saying that you’re working on it, because it is the most important issue facing your ad, is not the same as saying that every school in the conference will end up d 2 to make some fans happy
