Hasn't that schmuck milked more than his 15 minutes already. Who cares what he has to say? He'd be even more of a nobody if it weren't for Larry and Mel.

He kind of did mess up what could've been one of the greatest seasons in Paul's life. Just saying.

And yet Paul was part of two special seasons, albeit one had a horrible ending. And he still got his shot in the NBA. Wasn't he a walk-on? Regardless, a good career for most college bball players. Plus, his basketball experiences opened up doors for his writing. It isn't like he got run.

If things were so bad at the end, step up and pull people together. You were a SENIOR starter on the team. Demonstrate some leadership.

After reading his book and his blog since he graduated, it's safe to say he hates ISU and regrets coming here.

And that's too bad. As I said in another post, bball has been good to him. Maybe not what he dreamt about, but better than a lot. I guess I don't get harboring a grudge. Just like with Will Blaylock. Looking back with regret is natural but there are positives to any bad situation. May be hard to find but they are there.

He comes the Cult of Larry followers to discredit Shirley.

If by "discredit" you mean to shoot down the possibility of this ever happening, I don't think anyone's saying that. In fact most people seem to be acknowledging that it's entirely possible.

If instead by "discredit" you mean they take issue with the way Shirley handled this, at the time it happened or now, that's fair. But then, the criticism of Shirley is fair too.

This column serves no purpose in 2012.

Not defending LE or discrediting Paul. Just sad that somebody who was part of something special and had some experiences that few ISU players (or any b12 players outside of KU) got to experience.

LE has moved on, cleaned up, and hopefully found peace. We have moved on and have healed. I wish Paul would move on and heal too.

I have never liked Shirley. He whines about every little detail it seems. I would not care if LE said that to my team. If you hate the coach, then prove the guy wrong. If he hates coaching you make him continue to coach you. I will never forget the time I met Paul when I was like 7 and I said are you Paul Shirley and he just looks at me like I am a complete idiot and says I don't know, am I? Seems like he can be a ***** to anyone else but when someone does something to him he goes and rants about it.

I don't doubt that something along these lines actually happened. We all know LE had his issues, and temperament plus alcohol isn't a healthy mix.

But as far as Shirley goes, this is just unnecessary, particularly on the eve of the tournament. It opens up old wounds from a time long gone. It just feels like an attempt to snag some of the spotlight. Granted, he seems complimentary toward these Cyclones, but there's just no need for it.

So many great stories and this is what the RE-REGISTER posts on the eve of our first NCAA tournament in years.

I'm sure buzz kill Mark Emmert posted this but we'll never know. Wouldn't put it past Petterson but he's to busy showing off his credentials in louisville.

Cheers to you RE-REGISTER and your loser staff...

Shirley let it go. It's not like Chizik who drove us into the ground and screwed over a bunch of loyal Iowa State players. The guy was a cancer to the school and a jerk.

I haven't gotten that impression at all. He's given tons of credit to Tim Floyd for giving him a chance and (despite what some people think) has written good things about ISU as well. I do think he really hated playing for Eustachy. I loved the results that Eustachy got out of those teams, but, honestly, most of us probably would have hated playing for him then too.

Shirley is all about Shirley. Boo-hoo, coach said mean things to me. The MSU game showed how he handles adversity. Instead of being mad and/or trying to support his teammates still playing, he sat on the bench and sobbed uncontrollably.

I actually like Shirley's writing. He's blunt but can do so with some sarcasm thrown in.
