And NW did beat ND by 14 pts. and ND beat St.Louis by 1 more than us, and we lost by what 2 pts? Its a loss, they happen, get over it.

One loss - everyone loses some games in basketball. Disappointing, but no need for a meltdown.

It was a disappointing loss for sure.

I agree with the OP that we should NEVER get on our own players. I don't think the vast majority of you have been in this position before. You try your best as a player, and it is really discouraging when YOUR OWN fans blame you or discuss how bad you are. Try to put yourself in the player's shoes before commenting. Imagine you are the player being criticized before you post. (Don't give me the "toughen up, this is big-time athletics line either - these players aren't paid!!)

It's only fair that criticism should fall on the coaching staff to an extent. They are the ones making the exhorbitant salary after all. Greg McDermott does make more than 4 times (with bonuses) the salary of Iowa's governor after all.

I'm proud they played hard and will hopefully bounce back with two big wins this week!

And some of it does, but Coach isn't shooting the free throws, coach isn't defending the back door, coach isn't shooting the gimmes. He can only put them in a position to win, which he did. He can't go on the floor and win it for them.

Be sure to let us know when 10,000 fans pay $15 each to go watch the Governor of Iowa do whatever he does for 2 hours some winter night. Salaries of college coaches tend to reflect societal demands and priorities. Not saying it's right, but it certainly is the world we're in.

I agree that the players shouldn't be berated or mocked, and I believe they should receive a great deal of respect for the sacrifices they make to entertain us. However - are you expecting people to blow sunshine up their rear ends if they have crappy games? I think people are jumping off of cliffs after one game here, but there was some pretty mediocre play. That can absolutely be recognized.
