So you think 10,000 will go to SA but not buy a ticket? I’m not going to argue against you because I’ve never gone to a bowl and not gone in, but it seems crazy to me to make that trip then not spend $100 on a ticket.
There are probably a number of spouses or other family members who couldn’t care less about the game, but are there for the party/vacation.

Maybe 500-1000 will do that, but no way 1 in every 4 person down there stays out of the stadium.
think of it like the ISU/UI game ... lots of people there not going to the game, but want to be a part of the party. It was similar in PHX.

I think there will be plenty going. My son and his boss rented a car, staying at the Grand Hyatt, but did pay $200 each for tickets. Great seats though. A teller at my bank, making a mini vacation out it, another five there. I bet 28,000 for sure. And those snow birds!

I think this will be the largest turnout for ISU in bowl history. Maybe 45K.

-It's driveable (even if its a long day)
-ranked opponent
-located in/near a large supportive cyclone club for local ISU fans that will show up.
-best bowl clones have made since....the peach bowl?
-general excitement about the team is still high despite the ugliness of the Drake game ended the season strong
-GREAT city with warm climate
-expectations of making a bowl were there preseason so people were budgeting and planning for it who might go.

There were 30Kish for a return trip to Memphis to play a local g5 team in their home stadium. Memphis is fun but in a cold weather environment and was a repeat factors make it less appealing.

Outside of a New Year's 6 game or a playoff I can't imagine another bowl checking all the boxes the Alamo Bowl does for fan appeal. Infromal polling of my friends is anecdotal but every friend I have that goes to games is going to San Antonio.

45k? I am wondering if there were that many at the Kansas state game

I'd say pretty close, but we play KSU in Ames every 2 years. We play in a bowl game of this caliber in this desirable of a location historically about once every 60-65 years.

I think relating to a late season home game attendance to estimate bowl attendance is probably not as informative as comparing to prior bowl trips. If Memphis can get 30K on round 2 when fans weren't expecting a bowl trip to start the year, then fans can get 35-40K attendance easy when they do expect a bowl trip.

The desirability of this game and location kick that up another 5-10K compared to a repeat in cooler weather location. That's all it would take to hit 45k.

Adding to this.

I would be shocked if there wasn't a 5Kish bump just from the DFW Cyclone Club proximity compared to local ISU attendees at Memphis
