The only reason Long is starting now is because Fred doesn't want 2 of his 3 bench players to be his shooters.

Personally, I would love

Morris
BDJ
Hogue
Niang
McKay

Leave Long and Thomas, our two worst defenders, out of the starting lineup. Lets just keep the game close and let those two fire up threes after the first media time out.

Actually, starting lineup is extremely important for this team. Why?

Because in our two Big 12 road games, we've started out down 19 and down 17 in the first 5-10 minutes.

A solid starting lineup doesn't let you get punched in the nose that early.

To be fair, that did not happen at WVU.

posted the same thing in the Edozie thread with more details why. The spacing wouldn't be as big of a problem as people would think.

Let's face it. We're a better team when the shots fall. But when they don't, we're going to struggle. Thus the close conference wins, even in Hilton. And the losses vs. Maryland, SCar, and Tech when we didn't shoot well. (among other things). As for the lineup.....while watching the Baylor game the announcers kept talking about Chery and Medford, and how much better it is to have two guys like that on the floor vs. the pressure all on one. Likewise, another mention was how the freshmen Graham playing along with Mason today was much more effective , especially defensively for KU vs. Texas today. It really got me thinking. We finished so well last year, imo, because we had that with both Kane and Monte. That's why Fred couldn't help but start Monte. The two of them made us so much better. IMO, we're having to count alot on Monte for so much. BDJ, Naz, and Matt just haven't "consistently" provided that same combo this year. While each have had key roles and big games, I don't think they're the rock solid ballhandlers and defenders we can consistently count on which only magnifies when they're not making threes. I do think, CFH, thought BDJ would be the answer and maybe he still will, idk. Not sure starting McKay and putting our main three bigs out there to defend right away will solve much, but who knows.

Matt was maybe our 4th best player tonight, but you'd think he was Hitler looking at the posts on the board.

Matt is on the floor to make shots and the coach and team did a great job of getting him open looks. Sorry, but he missed a ton of good shots today, and played marginal defense. I like the kid, and really, really wish he could become a 3 point threat, but he is just not making shots in games.[/QUOTE]

Somebody needs to make threes...anybody...

Maybe someone needs to get a bigger defensive motor after sitting on the bench.

I think the problem with BDJ and Thomas is that they are not playing to their strengths offensively. I know Fred's system focuses in shooting threes instead of long twos, but from what I've seen, BDJ and Thomas have a way more consistent mid-range jumper than a 3 point shot. Maybe we should have those two focus on their mid range game rather than their 3's?

Naz long is the best perimeter defender we have IMO. Man its a tough situation. But I think we might need him to be the 6th man

Naz can be a good defender but he def was not good vs Tech. Granted, nobody played hard to start the game but Naz also appeared to quit when he purposely fouled out.
