No different than all you guys taking shots at Hoiberg now.

Dude, I know it's too much to ask any sort of rational thought from you, but if you look at my posting history when it comes to Fred and Nebraska I've been one of his biggest defenders against the silliness of Cyclone fans who think he's now an ISU-hating traitor.

I don't dislike Fred at all. More power to him. But I don't have to care about him either. He's just not the passionate Cyclone fan that I thought he was, that's all.

And don't give me this crap that he can still be a passionate Cyclone fan and coach at Nebby. Nope, sorry, you can't do both IMO. He's recruiting straight up against ISU now, which will make ISU worse off. I don't care about Fred anymore.

Do you honestly feel that he should remain unemployed for the rest of his life rather than coach somewhere else that isn't ISU? And do you truly think that makes him a traitor of some kind?

I wasn't directing my post at you personally, just look at all the butthurt Fred haters commenting in this exact thread.

Did Randy really think that Fred would get much harassment at a golf tournament? Let him go to the State Fair and let's see what kind of response he gets.

I don't hate Fred at all I just don't care to hear about him every time Randy runs out of things to talk about. Most of the people hating on this thread were focused on Randy until you had to spew your nonsense.

Everyone but Randy is "starting to accept it".

I think I still see 1 to 2 articles every 1 to 2 weeks from Randy about Hoiberg.

I think Randy's sole goal is to piss off and irritate the hell out of Iowa State fans.

Yeah, not unlike some here, he seems to stir the pot.

I never knew Fred, but his father, Eric Hoiberg, was one of my first professors at Iowa State, teaching rural sociology, and obviously highly competent. The one article a couple of weeks ago had a lot more history about his father’s side of the family, that I don’t believe was previously known publicly:

Fred Hoiberg became 'The Mayor' of Ames, but he's always been a Nebraskan, down to his deepest roots
By Chris Heady / World-Herald staff writer, May 20

I no longer have access to the article, as it is gated, but there was a picture of Eric Hoiberg in the Nebraska football stands wearing a red cowboy hat. I believe it said that it was from Bob Devaney’s first year as head football coach, which I see was 1962. The Hoibergs moved to Ames in 1974, as I recall from the article, when Fred would have been about two. Anyway, it was an interesting read, and I learned a lot about the Hoiberg family history, which is mostly right there, in or not too far from Lincoln. I would have guessed Eric grew up on a farm, but that was not the case, though it was a small town. Another professor at Iowa State who graduated from UNL was Earl Heady, who, as an agricultural economics professor, might well have won the Nobel Prize in Economics had he not unfortunately suffered a debilitating stroke and relatively early death. (I don’t know, but it seems unlikely that the World-Herald staff writer Chris Heady, cited above, is related, from a simple search). When I first met Earl Heady in his office, he asked where I was from, and he immediately told me the soil type there. : ) Eric Hoiberg was similar in competence, character, demeanor — really good at what he did — and a real asset to Iowa State.

Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but IMO there seems to be a lot of unnecessary drama.

I don’t expect that I will link any more articles, but to any who are interested, there is an article there right now, ungated, that talks about a play in the NBA finals, the “Cyclone”, a lot about ISU basketball under Hoiberg, including a clip of Naz Long and Georges Niang, and a recent video of Hoiberg talking about their team. He talks a lot about doing there, what he did at Iowa State, which right now includes a lot of transfers:

Thanks for the note about the "Cyclone."

"Because the Raptors were playing so tight on Curry, Kerr made his star shooter a screener. And up two points in the third quarter, Kerr signaled the play the Warriors call "Cyclone" to get Draymond Green an open look."

IMO the people who are still upset that Fred left and the people who are over it should be able to unite on the idea that the Des Moines FU***** Register needs to stop this nonsense. I don't understand why they feel the need to continue to bring this up and rub it in the faces of the Iowa State fan base. I'm not even joking if this happened over in Iowa City there would be press passes revoked.
