More like very bad advice from a dad that could not let his son live his own life.
Probably a little bit of both. Chizik probably didn't do a good job of managing the kids expectations and made promises he couldn't keep. From what we have heard, he treated his players more like employees than anything else. A coach like CPR might have been able to convince him to stick it out and maybe make a switch to contribute more.
PBs dad didn't help anything though.
When it all went down, I was really ticked at Phil. He basically quit on his team. However, from what we know now about Chizik, I can see where some of the animosity may have come from.
Too bad, the kid was a terrific athlete.
