I chose Breece but perhaps it was recency bias. Both were great backs. Breece had better top-end speed and, in my mind, was more versatile.

Ron Dayne also had 2 seasons of over 2000 yards ('96 and '99), but Troy is the only one to do it in back-to-back seasons if that counts for anything.

Troy was the first to get to 2000 yards in two different seasons and is still the only one to get 2000+ yards in two seasons of only 11 games. The only other RBs to get to 2000+ rushing yards in two different seasons are Ron Dane and Jonathan Taylor.

Ron Dane did it in '96, '99 in 12 games and 13 games.
In '97, '98 Dane only played in 11 games in each season and only had about 1500 yds in each of those seasons.

Jonathan Taylor did it in 2018 and 2019 but he played in 13 games and 14 games in those two seasons. He came within 33 yrds of 2000 in 2017 so he almost had 3 straight seasons of 2000 yrds... but that year he played 14 games as well.

I chose Breece for his all around abilities.

Yes he had lots of other options but Troy also had an Oline that was so good they could still open up holes when everyone knew what they were doing. Troy added to it with his abilities, make no mistake.

Weird thing with 90s ISU football: it was the worst decade by a long shot (example the only one without a winning season) but had some very exciting things happening with the Davis Bros and at least an attempt by McCarney to create an atmosphere.

Schemes may have been tough for him, but he actually was fairly decent in pass protection. He didn't mind hitting a linebacker head on. I can remember coaches praising him for that latter part.
He knocked teeth loose from what I heard.
