Very interesting quotes in the Register from Mac.

At the time of Colvin's suspension -

“I got in this profession because I love to coach basketball, and I love to help young people grow. If winning ever gets in the way of that, then I have to get out of it.

“(Colvin) needs to grow up. If it costs me a couple wins along the way, then so be it. He’s going to be better, and I’m going to sleep better because of that.â€

After the game last night -

“I hated to do it, but given the choice I had, it was the only choice.â€

Really??? The only choice??? I call BS. He could have stuck a student manager in there if it got to that point! Mac is gradually losing respect in his coaching abilities, but in one fell swoop, he's lost a lot more when it comes to standing by his convictions and his integrity.

“When Craig Brackins looks at you and says, ‘Mac, you don’t have a choice,’ I had to play him,†McDermott said.

Who the hell is running this team?? The inmates or the warden?

Up until now, it seemed like Mac was a great guy. Now, I don't know who the real Mac is.

Biggest mistake from fans point of view...no question. He was fully aware of how it was going to look and what some of you would think. It was a no win situation, Mac made the decision he could live with for the players and the program. Assign blame if you must.

My only problem is McD said that if the suspension cost him games along the way, it was worth it. He saw not playing Colvin last night as detrimental to our chances of winning the game, obviously, so he lifted the suspension.

He was aware of his quote...It wasn't about winning or losing. It was about the team, which he had a discussion with each player. They ALL wanted Colvin to play.

I'm more concerned with why they can't rebound.

...and I'm more concerned with their lack of ability to make free throws. At least they have shown in a few games they can be aggressive on the boards. They have yet to show they can make free throws consistently.

Could have predicted this thread yesterday. I really don't know what you want the guy to do. If you would rather be but in a position where there are 4 guys on the floor so be it. He talked about it extensively on the post game show and how he thought about it. Not much that can be done.

I know he was aware of the quote, I don't think he is an idiot.

I'm pretty sure most of the players on the team 3 years ago, if asked, would have also wanted Mike Taylor to be allowed to play.

Fact of the matter is that was 3 years ago, young into McD Big 12 coaching career. Now in year 4 desperate measures call upon desperate times.

Working on them all the time...Hard to understand.

One thing is for, Mac's "man of integrity" image is gone. Now mind you, I don't mind having a snake as a head coach. But at least one that can win.

It was a move made that cost GMAC his credibility which is about all he had left. The team is not performing, players are bailing from the program at alarming rates in the last 4 years, and now our coach has destroyed his own credibility. The fact that this bogus story about the players voting for Colvin to play is just crazy. Who is in charge? Who makes the decisions around here? I am sure Colvin has learned his lesson. This move just shows me that we don't have the coach or the leader that we need in charge of this program. Until that changes we can expect no improvement in the program.
