My point still stands - if McD stick to his guns and kept Colvin out of the game, and we lost the game because the team got run ragged because the bench was not deep enough, ISU fans would be all over McD for NOT putting Colvin in, especially when word got out that the players wanted Colvin to play (or had no choice but to play him). Then we'd be having the argument that McD is too much of a disciplinarian who doesn't listen to the input of players and who's ideals are more important than what is good for the team.

Basically, ISU fan has placed McD in a no-win situation. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. No matter what he does at this point he can't win with this fan base. Hell, he wins in Lincoln last weekend and his win gets "qualified" by a lot of fans who refuse to be happy that we just won a game.

Look, I don't know anymore whether I want McD to be our coach long term. But for all of the stone-throwing that goes on by this fan base when it comes to ripping Iowa fans for being bipolar when it comes to supporting their team and wanting coaches replaced, this fan base tends to forget that they're living in glass houses...

Good post. We're well past Iowa fans on the bipolar thing. As for the Colvin call, Mac was cursed if he did, and cursed if he didn't. I wasn't fond of the idea, but I understand his reasoning, and I respect his decision. It isn't the one I think I would have made, but I don't have to verbally destroy the man and go over the top about it, either.

I'm amazed at the people on here that are perfectly happy wallowing in the mediocrity that has defined Mcdermott's time here.

I love posts like these. Ya you're right, McDermott supporters just absolutely love to lose.

McDermott supporters = LOSERS

And I love how people like you think that making an NIT run is an accomplishment worthy of hanging your hat on, when in reality it more resembles a cripple fight (cue South Park video). Or at least that's the #2 Morgan defense - he took us to the NIT. In other words, he wasn't good enough to get a self-labeled basketball school to the NCAA tourney that year...

Remember the post before the season that compared Colvin to Tinsley, and some of the posters insisted that Colvin was better.
I'll bet you could still get some of the deluded people on here to insist that he is.

I'm not saying he is, in fact I really doubt he is better, but he is just a freshman and has up to three years left. Let's not judge his whole career right now.

I believe that we should judge his entire life by the episode in Chicago:jimlad: Or his career by the first minute of his first exhibition game.:jimlad:

The young man has the potential to be a fantastic Cyclone. I'm not calling him Tinsley, but I really believe that we could be sitting back years from now talking about the games Chris Colvin had, and in a really, really good way.

In comparison to what we have had the last 3 years it is an accomplishment (NIT Final Four). And in the second year Morgan's team did go to the NCAA tourney, advance to the second round before losing to UNC who had 284 lottery picks on that team.

No one is claiming we are Duke, North Carolina, KU, or Kentucky in MBB. But we certainly have had more success than a "few years at the beginning of this decade".

Until McDermott arrived, we were typically in the post season discussion every year prior to the beginning of the season with legitimate aspirations of post season play.

Let me give you the facts for the 23 years immediately prior to GM's arrival:

15 post seasons in 23 years (65%)

3 NITs (two 1st rounds, one Semi-final)

12 NCAAs (five 1st rounds, 4 second rounds, 2 Sweet 16s, one Elite 8)

Longest stretch with no post season...two years (1990 & 1991 and 1998 & 1999)

About 20 upsets of teams ranked in the top 10 in the country (I can't recall the exact number but I posted it prior to our game with Texas) and I didn't have time to count the wins against top 25 teams in total.

An arena and fan base with a nationally recognized home court advantage.

You get the picture...I would say this is a little better than "mediocrity" or "little success"...and if you define these 23 years that way then how on earth do you define the GM era?

Fantastic post. We certainly haven't been a traditional top 25 program over the last couple decades, but we are historically way better than what we are now. Right now I think most people would be thrilled to just get back to being in the post season every other year.

There are those that will note my # of posts, and discount my opinion.
I can be accused of being a McD supporter.
Results matter to me as much as the next person
I think if you watch game preparation, game plan put on the court, mid game adjustments, player rotations, you see that Coach wants results as well. If you saw the game at Nebraska, game management the last 2 minutes was exceptional. What would the outcome have been against Texas with a few more free throws made.
In my 37 years as a Cyclone, we have never had a coach teach with the passion this coach teaches.
I do not want mediocrity and believe we should expect more, but look at Johnny's Big 8 record for all years here. And to qualify, I loved Johnny.
Coach was going to get criticized whichever direction he went with the Colvin suspension lift or no lift.
I can sit back and question whether there were signs expressed by Wesley or Lucca that we should have interpreted and reacted to, but I was not there.
This program was in a much greater state of hurt 4 years ago than we admitted.
We are all fans. We all want to win. We seek to blame someone for a loss. When uninformed, a person always seeks to respond with negativity. We will always be uninformed. Accept this team and staff and support them. It begins on Saturday at 1:00.
There is no justification for anything else. If I have a spelling error or punctuation mistake, so be it.

I was pulling for him to play Colvin, simply because the rest of the team shouldn't suffer just because Colvin can't act right.
I would prefer Colvin playing, and getting worked like a dog in practice, than pulling someone's RS just to prove a point to Chris.
It's not like we are the deepest of teams right now, heading into the toughest part of our schedule. We need all the bodies we can get.
