He's got a point.

But it's natural and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Expectations climb and people only seem to be able to view linear growth and expect that forever. ISU might be different in that a larger percentage understands it but I don't think that is enough to change the natural way of things.

There's a big difference between being a passionate fan and being a dbag. Some fans unfortunately can't see the difference.

For the most part I agree with JPs comments. Part of ISU's brand is the unbelievably loyal fanbase. Success does change the standards though, and our very own football coach preaches changing the standards. It's inevitable and needed if we want to move forward. I think expectations can be raised by the fanbase without going full toddler meltdown mode every time something doesn't go our way.

I look at it this way. JP has done plenty in his tenure to EARN my trust. He hasn't always made the right decision, but more often than not he gets it right. He's done incredible things at ISU. Campbell and Prohm have also done quite a bit to EARN my trust. They're not perfect, but they love being here, care a lot about what they do, and fit into the culture of the athletic department and Iowa State in general. And oh by the way, they WIN! Since that trust has been earned, they deserve some patience when things don't appear to be going well. Things rarely go well all the time, especially when you're actively building something. I'm good with giving them some patience with the trust that they are building something really good and something we all can be proud of.

This! Especially showing patience with our coaches. Growth doesn't follow a straight upward trajectory, there will be ups and downs. But our coaches and AD has earned our trust and we need to be supportive of the people that lead our teams. Right now all our coaches want to be here and build something special....let's do our part by being positive and supportive! Loyal, Forever True.

These coaches are being paid millions of dollars per year and are presumably adults. If they can make more money and have more success in another job they will. But as adults they should be able to handle some criticism.

On the other hand, I do worry about the portion of our fan base constantly criticizing the players who aren’t making a dime

That is Pollard's point though. Iowa state fans/support NEEDS to be different than most places. The unrelenting support and not calling for coaches to be fired after every loss is what he believes can help us keep good coaches like Campbell. If Iowa State is just like everywhere else, why would Campbell want to stay here? He can get paid more, have better facilities and have an easier time recruiting at other school. Pollard thinks we need to be different to have long term success with all the disadvantages we have over most schools (budget, location). He's right.

It is super hard and if you only focus on the end goal, you don't enjoy the process of getting there.

Think of how many idiots on here were so upset about the basketball season that they didn't enjoy plenty of good things that happened-the Kansas win, the Tech win, the Big 12 tournament.
I'd say we are probably on a Tier 3 level of basketball school. Tier 1 is the obvious blue bloods. Tier 2 is really good basketball schools like Georgetown, Villanova, Purdue, Michigan, North Carolina State, Wisconsin. Those schools aren't blue bloods but have decades of basketball success. That's where we want to be and right now we are pressed up against the glass ceiling and are trying really hard to break through.

We have made tournament 7 of last 8 years. Not many schools can say that.

Jamie must never read the #BBN comments on Twitter after Kentucky looses in Basketball. I think it's less about the fans and more about social media and our society getting mean. Users can hide behind their social media and internet postings with anonymous names

For comparison sake, look no further than all the Kansas State fans that have wanted Bill Snyder fired the past 3-5 years.

I couldn't decide whether to like or dislike your comment. Of course adults should be able to take constructive criticism, and CMC and CSP strike me as the type of people who do so. That doesn't mean it's the fans job to deliver that criticism in the harsh way you see it here and on social media. That's certainly not "helpful", and I think it's wise of JP to try to get us to see that. It's one thing to have discussions/debates on coaching decisions, play calls, strategies and tactics, playing time of players, yada yada yada . . . but honestly it is appalling some of the things some people say and pretend they are actually "fans".

On the other hand, I completely agree with you that the fans who go after players are just awful. No excuse for that whatsoever.

Amen, amen.
And please, no one start down the “If you’re happy finishing second, then you’ll never be a winner” path.
Play with class, win with honor.

So glad JP is our AD. That’s a contract to be sure to renew.

I made a point of telling him exactly that after the Big12 Tourney championship. Hope we have him with us for a long time.

Maybe he does and does and wants to encourage a better brand of fan.

Id like to know who was complaining during football. How anyone can complain after everything we have been through and having a season like that is rediculous. I’ll admit I was critical on some of the play calling, but it’s impossible to be unhappy with the season and performance. Basketball I think some complaints were warranted.

Jesus Christ. Read this place after the Iowa football game. Read it especially after the tcu game.

Everyone was losing their **** on Zeb, and of course the o line.
