Hines wrote an article 10 years ago about the audacity of Iowa State not getting another night’s worth of hotel rooms for the basketball team out in Hawaii the day AFTER they won the tournament. The team had to kill 5-6 hours until the team flight left in late afternoon, and he accused Pollard of nickel and diming the basketball program and Hoiberg which is what led him to leave Iowa State for the Bulls.

Yeah, I’ve been to Maui multiple times and that flight home always leaves late. You end up packing all your stuff and either sitting in the airport or leaving it in the rental car while wasting time somewhere. Just how it goes. First world problems…

Overall, I did not read it as a hit piece, but I got real vibes of jealousy as he repeatedly references CMC's income.

"A man making north of $4 million a year"

"Or at least to the extent any hyper-competitive, incredibly-compensated college football coach can."

I guess I’m struggling to see how this was a “hit piece” on Campbell? It reads to me, if anything, sympathetic to him.

Hines isn’t arguing that Campbell doesn’t believe in paying players, but rather presents the culture of the program that Campbell has created as something very different from some programs where it is *all* about money. And limiting the ability to develop walk-ons goes against that culture - this is what Campbell is fighting against. Hines argues that is a valiant, if probably losing, battle - I tend to agree.

Hey Travis **** off
