I wonder if we will see a 4 man vs Iowa now that we have the horses on the DL.

I've said it in other threads but if our defense can slow down the run with a 3 man front I think Iowa will be in for a long day. I'm not worried about our offense scoring points. DM will get his and Kempt should be able to exploit a young secondary and LB core.

1-2.

Pound on SDSU pretty good. 42-14 or so.

I think it'll take 35 to beat Iowa and I don't think the offense will be able to do that. Iowa by a TD.

...

I actually think this will be a low scoring game this year. Other than Fant, nothing about Iowa's offense scares me going against the strength of our team. Will our offense be able to move the ball is the question.

Yeah, I don't get where the 35 points comes from. Iowa only managed 35 points 4 times last year. They averaged 28 on the season with a couple of overtimes thrown in there.

Against State last year they only scored 21 through 3 quarters until ISU lost half of their defensive backfield to injury.

Well, this time of year you just have to say 3 - 0. I know that is what the coaches and the players are planning on. So why not us?

Shoot! Nebraska fans and media think they can go 10 - 2 this year as their best case scenario. I mean, if there is a time to be optimistic, it is now, before we even see the team do anything other than interviews and drills. So I'm all in: 3 -0 to start!

We'll see both. Considering Iowa is one of the few college teams still huddling, we'll have ample time to switch out personnel. I'd prefer starting with a 4 man front to try and stuff the run. We excel in the 3 man front with a delayed blitz in obvious passing situations.

As for our 3 week record, I think we'll be lucky to get past South Dakota State with a W. Our offensive line hasn't arrived. 1-2.

Fortunately you don't need a dominate offensive line to beat the likes of KU, Tech, & Baylor.

Campbell has said that the secret is to figure out how to get your best 11 on the field so it may be. With some inexperience in the backfield I would love to continue to see 3 down and 5 across the back with the ability to liberally sub across the D-line. Winning the 4th quarter when one team's D is fatigued often wins the game.

I actually think this exact scenario plays out, but I think they go 4-2 to end at 6-6.

Don't you know that what you want to happen is the biggest factor in outcome? Really though, I just can't agree with you guys. Cool-aid aside, we are going to dominate in games 1 & 2 thanks to our stellar D, our backs being just dangerous enough with the OL improved to average (please God), and excellent receivers. KK will be healthy in all 3 games and will have his timing and poise down.

in this case i believe optimism happens to be both reasonable and good medicine.

Need to be able to run the ball to keep the ball away from their offenses.

That sealed the game last year in Waco and was doing the same in Manhattan until 'it happened'.

If we are able to slow down the run game with a 3 man front you can use the DB/LB hybrid to shade Fant on a double team. Go back and watch the Wisconsin game from last year. Iowa's O-line couldn't figure out how to attack the 3 man front.

Covering the center makes it more difficult to block on certain plays, especially if the NG is nasty like Lima. The center has so much to worry about already, now he's got a beast breathing down his throat ready to shoot the gap.

If you're running the stretch same problem exists. Sure you can block him down the line if he tries to cross your face, but when that happens at the 0 or 1 gap before the hand off, things get dicey fast.

We’ve got to be careful to not overlook SDSU and Iowa. Those two will have been preparing all year for ISU, and OU won’t be overlooking us.

2-1.

Oklahoma will remember. I'm guessing their coaching staff has been reminding them persistently and unpleasantly.

Here's hoping I am wrong and we are 3-0.

We will be as good as our offensive line. But with that being said, we will be improved at every position group with the exception of kicker and maybe punter. We will be as motivated in Iowa City as OU is when they come here. But I don't think either of those two teams are going to be any better than they were last year.

I'm looking for a game against SDSU where we throw less than 20 times and run all over them. If that happens put me down for 3-0.

I guess you'd have to go with 1-2 being most likely since we'll be underdogs in 2 out of the 3 games.

My gut tells me we beat SDSU and Iowa though, and then have a bit of a let down against OU.

I will not predict a W against OU until Campbell proves that he will have ISU competitive against them every year. There is too much bad history there and too many players have seen way too much of it. It is easy to say "here we go again" and quit fighting when you start losing to a team that has won over 90% of the games against you.
