if Hoiberg wasn't here, people would be calling for JP's head

I know it's not popular around here, but Chizik and McD were both fantastic hires at the time. They didn't pan out, obviously.

The whole Cale thing looks weird.

CFH was obviously a great hire.

And I think CPR was too. But JP will have some tough conversations at this time next season, if nothing improves.

That's sounds all nice and beautiful, but there are still going to be plenty of holes on next years team. We have some solid pieces here and there, but that isn't enough to have a great team all around.

This is college football, there is always going to be holes that someone new has to step up and fill do to a graduating Sr. It happens to every team.

Unlike you I am not a pessimist and know what is in our pipeline, and while there will be holes I think with the talent we return and the new guys filling in those holes we will be a good team.

Just out of curiousity what positions to you figure to have big holes for 2015? IMO they are TE (but this can be negated by running 4 WR sets and not using a tight end (just my opinion but I don't feel the need for a tight end unless he is a stud like EJ)), C (to replace Fariok), DE (to replace Morrissey), MLB (to replace Miller) and DT (to replace Jensen). All the other positions we return guys.

Going back to 1967 (but including the previous 9 years to get you to 1959) this is currently the 9th worst stretch (out of 48) by total winning percentage (.355) as of right now. If ISU loses out, it would be 8th worst. Win two more games and it would be 11th worst. The median of the win percentages is .404 which is roughly the difference of 4 games swinging from a win to a loss.

There's some other angles to look at and data to include but I may save that for something more formal. But, I will say that if you look at conference games only (to exclude cupcakes) and look at the percentage of games versus ranked teams the numbers swing more to the favor of Rhoads.
Thanks this is very useful. Appreciate all you do.

How many wins were you predicting for this year?

A good football coach shouldn't be "building" his program in the 6th year.

I will let you know after I watch some practices next fall. fair?
OK for next year, I meant what did you predict for this year in August of this year. I said after I watched practice that I expected 3 and hoped for 6. Also said CPR was not going to get it done at ISU.

You lose 3 important people. Morrissey, Jensen and Farniok are it. Of those, I worry about replacing Farniok. You will have 4 JUCO guys there to replace the Dline guys. Your whole secondary is back. All the linebackers are back. Yeah, you lose a nickel guy but forgive me for not being worried about that.

Forgot about Bibbs. That will be negated by the amount of capable WRs we have or, best case, one of the young TEs steps up. Not a big deal.

Defense seems to be a major major concern for me going into next season. We are still going to be weak at CB. Yes, Tribune, Sam E, and Kenneth Lynn return, but all 3 of those guys have a long long ways to go. All don't seem to have high ceilings and just aren't as talented as we need. We have seen all of their improvements from last year to this and quite frankly I don't think it has been much if at all. Also, LB is going to be another issue. Luke Knott is serviceable. We will see more Meeks who is young and am sure he will improve. Kane Seeley is likely going to have to play an even bigger role next year which is somewhat scary imo. Hopefully Jordan Harris pans out, but that is just hope. Also hope Larry Jefferson and Xavier Pegues are the real deal or we are going to be extremely thin on the DL. Hard to come up with big playmakers there.

I realize that there are quite a bit of guys coming back overall, but that doesn't always mean problem is solved for next year. It's nice having a bunch of returning role players, but there is not near enough returning playmakers. We are set in some areas, but there is also reason for major concern for others.

4 ways things can turn out:

3. Fans like the hire. Coach's performance turns out to be bad. AD gets a C.....

Coach's performance turns out to be be bad. We can't afford to do anything because the coach was given a huge extension. AD gets a F. (Two Fs if you do it in multiple sports!)

Given how we have played without Miller in the middle, he is going to be tough to replace.

The biggest issue is that besides the back 7 guys, young and promising players all too often become disappointing upperclassmen, assuming they are still on the roster. If Wally and Co leave, the transition pains may have us including the back 7 in that list.

You've just gotten schooled by two of the more knowledgeable football posters on CF. But your personal vendetta won't let you even acknowledge for one second they may be correct.

You really should just take the rest of the season off.

Didn't realize the 2015 season has already been played and I was wrong.

Your meltdown is amazing. Rhoads himself would be impressed.

Duh!
Pollard? Sure. There is plenty of blame to go around. That includes the Alumni and Fans of the 3rd largest university in the B12...who are last in the conference in athletics donations. We are getting what we are paying for...that includes me, as a CC and CGC member.

How could I have time for that? Your mother keeps me occupied
