The local Hy-Vee food is so bad I can't even look at it (know it's not that way in larger towns), but is that the Hy-Vee version of what's usually called General Tso?

The Hyvees near me are starting to have little Hyvee restaurants in them complete with waiter/waitress and beers on tap.

What a time to be alive.

So Fred was 99% sure he was leaving... except if the Bulls made it the finals. His first choice for a replacement was Prohm. Yet he still brought TJ back? Either TJ actually does just want to be here as either HC OR AC or he got done dirty by Fred.

Please..... Did I miss something in another thread? Where does it say Fred's first choice was anybody? You would think that after all the crap/speculation/spin/conspiracy theories/ etc we would refrain from making assumptions. Really guys, we don't KNOW lots of things. Can't we move on?

Yes, you missed it. Pollard described some details of the search, and discusses how he asked Fred who he would suggest.....and Fred said Prohm.

Interesting that iSu gave the search firm 20 candidates and told them to do the research

Having worked with a search firm like Parker before, they do all of the work that you don't want to do, they are very discreet about it, and they don't do the real substantive work that you want you AD to do. I can just about guarantee that they did research on the list of 20 and had a meeting with JP where they shared what they learned about them and made recommendations as to who to move forward with, but JP had the final say about who to invite to interview. Then Parker took care of the logistics for the interviews so JP could just sit in a room and have the candidates walk in and out according to a schedule.

Some guys love to rip on schools and ADs for hiring search firms (ESPN's Jeff Goodman, for one) but they are absolutely worth it because this is exactly what they do and the ADs are left with the substantive decisions of choosing who to hire and nothing else.

My guess on the T.J. situation is:

1) The St. John's job opened and Matt A had some interest, spoke to Fred, and Fred said he was thinking about going Bulls (at least) so Matt A left.

2) Fred gave a call to T.J. to replace Matt A. and in that conversation, Fred said he was thinking about going Bulls (at least) so T.J. came to ISU.

3) When T.J. left Washington, he told Romar whatever Fred had told him regarding the Bulls. This explains Romar's comments about why T.J. left.

So I think T.J. came to ISU because he wanted to have a better shot at the HC job but it wasn't promised to him by anyone. I don't buy the whole "T.J. was JP's choice until Leath got involved" thing. For one, if that were true, JP would be taking the next open job he could find so I guess we could wait and see if that happens.

I think T.J. had to know the risks of jumping ship when he did so because if he wasn't hired, he could be out of a job for a year, but he's a guy who's looking for an HC job anyway and I imagine he'll get a small-school HC position for 16-17 regardless of whether he's an ISU coach this year or not.

What it doesn't say is that Fred probably suggested 4-5 guys, but that doesn't fit the narrative.

You're probably right. Names to 'consider' is different than 'choosing'. TJ took a chance and just because he didn't get the job, doesn't mean he doesn't have 'just as good a job here' (or at least contract) if not better than he had at Washington. Some have said he wasn't a finalist for another earlier job anyways, so ISU probably looked attractive again whether Fred left this year or not. Like some say, things happen for a reason.

For all we know, he is already working on his other short list..........

Should a firm like this have been able to give dirt about LE's drinking problem for example? No idea if they had a firm check him out or if we hired him knowing something about it.

I think Larry was hired on Tim Floyd's recommendation. The search firm thing is fairly recent, at least in ISU's use of them, I think the first time I remember us using one was BVDV flaming out on several recommended candidates before hiring Morgan.

This part's wrong.
