Be honest, how many of you are taking the stance that "Leath needs to stay out of it" because of VEISEHA? I'm going to bet that's the only viewpoint a lot of people have of the guy.

It looks bad, really bad, that this got out of the University but Leath wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't give the AD his opinion in the search. The success of the basketball team has a direct impact on the University at large.

Are you trying to say that Gmac and Chiz were not considered great hires at the time?

Certainly not by a lot of us who were excited about Brian Kelly, and there was a lot of support for him at least on the board and among my Clone friends. The Chiz hire was too similar to the Donnie Duncan hire and similar to the DMac hire as well. We just haven't had much success hiring d-coordinators. Most liked the GMac hire, but obviously not the players with good reason. GMac had tore into Homan at UNI and there was likely bad blood between Morgan and his players over the shouting match that ensued. A mass exodus with the hiring of GMac could have been predicted, and of course that's what happened.

There have been many times in my career where my supervisor told me exactly what they wanted me to do.

I'm not both feet in the "stay out of it" circle. I think he should have his say and let the guy with experience do what he was hired for. And I say that having (mostly) supported Pres Leath in the VEISHEA situation.

With his history of hires, I don't think its unreasonable for Leath to want to have some input. JP hit a homer with Fred but other than that, his history of hires is pretty meh. this is also the more important hire JP has made, it could be the most important hire in Cyclone bball history

I think you are under emphasizing how bad his hires besides Fred have been.

JP is finding turds in his sanbox. His only problem is that he can't get rid of the neighborhood cat.

I agree neither Greg McDoormat or Gene CheeseDip Chizik did anything..................If this Jamie hire is as bad as the Doormat or CheeseDip it will set this basketball program back a whole lot of years............

There have been many times in my career where my supervisor told me exactly what they wanted me to do.

And? doesn't mean that resulted in the best outcome. A supervisor coming in who knows nothing about your job telling you who to hire could have bad results.

Did you read CW's list of assistants who toke over for their former head coaches. It's not the end of the world if you give TJ his chance for two years to see what he can do. If we bring in the splash hire, with a longer contract and more money and it doesn't work out in 3-4 years... that's a worse situation IMO.

Pollard built his buildings and improved facilities, and I appreciate that. He has served his purpose at ISU. It's time to hire an AD that knows how to hire quality coaches.

Its funny, I don't think any of our fans would be behind a hire of a guy like Coach Rhoads for either sport right now - he had just been let go from Auburn along with the rest of the staff.

If Jamie's replacement hire for Fred H does not work out ....well.....You may just get your wish and have a new replacement AD for Jamie

I would hope so, because then we wouldn't have any coaches that are getting the job done... except for Christy Johnson. Fennelly is even on the downturn I think.

JP would have nothing to point to any longer as "successes" besides concrete structures. That doesn't cut it.

Fred basically hired himself, so it's tough to give JP credit for that one. Of the others, I'd say Chizik was the best hire. Definitely the biggest splash from a national perspective, and CPR had all his big shining moments with Chizik's recruits. However, JP seemed to learn his lesson about hiring coaches that "aren't one of us."

Today sure reeks of Leath requiring Pollard to conduct an actual search instead of JP's focus on one guy. Which is only good for ISU in the long run. If TJ is the guy, make him prove it against other candidates.

I know Pollard has somewhat of an ego(in a good way), but it seems like Leath is trying to show his muscles off a little too much.

Used to be proud of my Alma mater's national ranking of Universities. Have a stepson who will be attending college next year, and was selling the cyclones to him. Went to US News ratings to back my case.....Oops, when I got to Iowa rated at 81, went back up the list, figuring I missed ISU. Nope ISU is rated 104! Always thought they were rated in the top 50 institutions in USA, sometimes they come out in top 25, not any more. Friggin Alabama is rated higher than us!
