Two guesses:

1) This is more of a look at a battle for the final starting spot than a battle for the SF role

2) I don't think Long will start and I'm pretty certain Nader and Hogue will

I really hope Dustin can improve his jumper from outside. Otherwise it might be tough to find a lot minutes when McKay becomes eligible.

I was fine with his 3-pt shooting last year, which will improve next season. I would like his turnaround jumper in the lane and his driving ability to improve. If so, he has a chance in the NBA.

The guy scored thirty some points against the national champions. And played in full beast mode through both tournaments. Barring an injury or other problem, I think there's no doubt he'll be a starter.

If McKay beats him out - think of the flowing kool-aid!

For our three non-guard spots, Niang and Hogue are locks. You can argue about Hogue all you want, but there's no chance that he won't be starting. The third spot will either be McKay or Hogue, depending on what type of matchup nightmare Fred wants to create.

I hope Niang can get a little playing time. Needs to improve his dunking or he will be riding the pine.

not serious.

UConn focused on stopping Ejim. Hogue was the mismatch that night, thus putting up 30-some. Wouldn't expect him having multiple big scoring nights like 'that' again necessarily, but definitely agree with those that say he starts and doesn't come off the floor much as he's our energy bunny and rebounder. Assume Nader 'could' play the 4 as well as the 3? Regardless, it will be nice to have more possible combinations that CFH can use to create those mismatches depending on the opponent.

Ummm I don't think Hogue's minutes are really up for debate. The guy is going to start and get his minutes....

I think you are right. BDJ takes the 2-guard spot and Hogue definitely starts. Nader is the only uncertainty ad McKay could supplant him in Dec. All guess work at this point as we haven't see BDJ, McKay, or Nader play yet.

I could see us using different starting lineups and giving big minutes to various non- starters, both by game plan and by going with the hot hand. We are going to be so hard to prep for!

Like others said, the positions are a blur, but it would seem that there will be a battle among Nader, Naz, Thomas, McKay, Edozie, SDW and maybe Hogue (if he's not a clear staple) for minutes. Maybe throw Custer and the Greek kid in there too if they surprise.

We know enough about Hoiball now to know that Niang, Morris and BDJ are likely going to play a ton of minutes. Who gets the minutes at those other spots is up for grabs as to who can be the most effective, especially offensively.

If Hogue consistently plays like he did in the Big 12 and NCAA tournament it's going to be hard to keep him off the court and the competition for minutes really intensifies.

Hogue, Niang, and Morris are 100% locks to start.

BDJ 85%
Nader 60%
3sus 30%
Thomas 20%
The Rest 5%

Won't mention McKay since he isn't eligible yet.

I think for one game we should start all bigs.
7'1" freshman
Mckay
Hogue
Nader
Niang at the point

Then one game go,
Niang
Nader
Long
BDJ
Morris

Fred is going to have so much fun messing with people with all the combinations of players he can put out there

And I don't care what ESPN writes, being on a list with Arizona, North Carolina, Louisville, Florida, and Ohio State is pretty freakin cool.

It's very hard to know what will happen. I think Morris and Niang are the only certain starters. I agree its hard to keep Hogue off the floor because he is an all around awesome player with a ton of energy and toughness. I just can't wait to see how good these two line ups will be. Extremely deep team, means better practices, and should lead to better player development. Either way I think this team is going to be a contender.

Setting the ************/Kool Aide aside.

We're contenders next year.. As long as we stay healthy. Were a very very very good ball club.

God that feels good to say doesn't it?
