He probably could've been if he stayed longer.
I agree with that, but he isn't going to stay. So, we will never know.

That's one of his jobs. Mentoring student athletes and looking out for their interests is also part of his job. If you want ISU to get back to a place where they are competing for B12 championships and perennially in the NCAAs then you have to accept that our best players aren't going to stick around more than 1-2 years.
Having a first round draft pick among your former players is a good thing.
As much as a positive it can be for Fred and ISU to have Royce make it in the NBA, could the opposite be said if Royce doesn't make it like CB and that in effect the program and Fred in a negative way?Yep. Fred most likely took a voluntary hit to his program to put the best interests of one of his players first. That will earn him some cred amongst recruits, assuming that Royce does get drafted where he is projected to.

I'm assuming CFH has received substantive assurances that the bolded part will hold true for RW. Because if it doesn't, it will not be such a good thing for CFH.

Have to disagree on the list of all-time great cyclones as well. I appreciate all that Royce has done in his two years here, but for me you need to make contributions on the court for at least two years, before you're considered next to guys like Fred, Hornacek, Cato, Grayer, Stevens, Jamaal, Fizer, and Sullivan.
Agreed. Percy has already shown a nice touch around the hoop. His defensive awareness, passing, and physical abilities should all improve. Between him and Niang, I think we will have two very capable low-post scorers for several years to come. Our offense will look very different in coming years from what it did this year. My biggest concern for next year is whether our three-point shooting will be good enough to keep teams honest on defense. The loss of our two best three-point shooters could hurt more than we expect it to.The player who will benefit the most from this latest development? Percy Gibson. He showed as a true freshman this year that he can be a real factor, and I know he was getting impatient about playing time. He, Booker, Georges Niange (sp?) are all going to get the opportunity to help fill some big shoes next year.
I hate this. I hate this for Royce, I hate this for Iowa State. He is not ready for the NBA. Every time Iowa State is about to get over the hump and really do something special this happens. whether it is somebody leaving for NBA, or somebody leaving the program, or the one great recruit not coming here, or a missed field goal, or a terrible call at the goal line. every time. It is getting really old. I just wish we could get some talent that actually wants to stay long enough, or come to Iowa State to turn us into a powerhouse. I feel like we have been so close before. I think that is why Royce is not one of the greatest cylclones of all time. I just don't think leading a team to the round of 32 puts you in that conversation. He has the opportunity to be a legend, but would rather be a maybe first round draft choice. I don't get it. a million dollars today, or multimillion dollars and legend status in multiple states, where you could get any job you wanted to after basketball. I would choose the 2nd option. But I actually care about Iowa State and the state of Iowa, so maybe that is where I differ.
