I think its the reverse. There is a lot of interest + bowl games for existing coaches + holidays + earlier recruiting period = longer timeline.

I agree. This is hardly taking forever. It's still December for crying out loud.

I don't think there's any doubt there will be a lot of applicants for the job. It's a D-1 OC position. The quality of the applicants might be a different story.

I think the bowl games are obviously what is holding things up. CPR said he wanted to be done by mid January and that fits perfectly since most bowls will be over by January and then that gives him a couple weeks to interview and choose.

Anyone that thinks this is not a desirable position, has obviously not looked at the talent on the offensive side of the ball.

I have said this before, there is a lot of opportunities for this offense to improve greatly in the next year. Our OL will be healthy and have depth from so many guys getting thrown to the wolves. The QB position has to land on someone and that person has to evolve their game. This team imo has the skilled position players that will be the best that ISU has had in a long long time with 3 legitimate All Big 12 caliber players in Wimberly, Bibbs, Bundrage. I can never remember ISU having that type of talent at those positions at the same time. We need the line to solidify and stay healthy and a qb to organize everything. Throw in there one of the highest rated WR in high school, a super talented transfer in Dvario Montgomery and this offense has all the weapons if someone can mold them into a consistent unit.

If that OL can stay healthy and we pick our QB - i will guarantee this team will put up some crazy points next year....those are big ifs....but i have confidence in CPR......

Easy, there KMAC. I'm as excited as anyone to see what we can do with some different direction and leadership. But your last comment-those are not big ifs. I would probably replace "OL can stay healthy" with "OL can develop some talent" and "pick our QB" with "somehow find a Big 12 level QB".

I do agree on our skill players, but not sure those are all Big 12 type players. Not sure they'd all start on about 4-5 teams in the league.

It depends on your definition of "desirable." All FBS coordinator positions are "desirable" to a large extent. Having a lot of returnees is a definite positive but signing on with a program that is on a downward trend in terms of victories is going to give anyone pause. In short, the promise of job security is not strong at ISU.

Again, no reason to think CPR shouldn't be able to find a good coach but I think a lot of people have an inflated opinion of the position.

LOL. One year is not a trend.

Not seeing mentions of Bob Cole, NIU's OC, but I'm not eliminating him as a possibility. Surprise hires happen frequently.

After watching NIU's offense tonight in the Bowl game, I would eliminate him as a possibility. The NIU offense totally sucked.

I hope he was never in consideration. First, he was not the OC until this year, and second, NIU has been okay on offense due to Lynch dominating MAC defenses.

Exactly. Everything was about Lynch. And when Lynch is not Superman there is no offense.

Nonsense. ISU is a great opportunity for a young up-and-comer to prove their self at the next level. If you can put up decent numbers @ ISU in the Big 12 following the dismal offensive production we've had lately, you obviously know what the hell you're doing. Paul SHOULD take his time and make sure he gets this one right. It took him awhile to land Wally Burnham. Have patience.

Don't think we want a young up-and-comer. We want an older already-done-it.

Every assistant coaches bio makes them sound like the next Vince Lombardi....never fails. Every good thing a team does, every assistant coach takes credit in his bio. Rhoads will have to sort through the chaf.

I didn't mean the details of his Bio was that great - and you are right - they can all pick details that make them look reall good.

I saw he'd been an OC for 4 years at the same school , non BCS school that we'd be a possible logical step up, state of Tex experience for recruiting, Big 12 ties (was willing to live/coach in Lawrence). Just was curious.....

I don't feel like thumbing thru the 28 pages, but has John Reagan's name been brought up? The current OC/RB coach at Rice. Been the OC since 2010. Pretty impressive. Was the RB coach back in KU's glory days in the mid 2000's. Just curious....

John Reagan Bio - RICEOWLS.COM - The Rice Official Athletic Site

I'm not saying this would be a bad hire, but we got Tom Hermann from Rice with some great credentials and that didn't work out so well. I was never sure if the issues were talent, CPR limiting what Hermann was allowed to do, or what? Hopefully whatever cause Hermann to not be successful here after a great run at Rice, I hope those issues have been resolved.
