Klenakis was the OC at Nevada, but the HC was the one who ran the offense (and created it). I for one would be a little worried if CPR promotes him to OC. He has enough work to do with the OL. For the timeline, I'm fine with it just because of the importance of the hire. This is THE key hire of the CPR era. If he gets it right, the program will continue to get better and CPR will get them to the next level. If he doesn't and the offense doesn't improve greatly, we'll be looking for a new HC in two years.

The same could be said of a lot of OC's. Klenakis has actually been a pretty good OC over a long period of time. And he has picked up work right away whether it be at OC or OL coach when situations have arisen such as when Petrino was fired from Arkansas where Klenakis was OC.

I know Klenakis left Nevada to go to Arkansas and coach under Petrino. I do not know how many other BCS level OC positions he applied for. Perhaps you could tell us all the ones he applied for that he did not get.

No, in fact I can't tell you where he applied, but I think it would be safe to assume that no one came knocking on his door either....and that is precisely my point.

I couldn't agree more.

He's never been out of work and all his positions seem to be with higher and higher profile programs. And there is NO OC who has ever "invented" an offense. They all take bits and pieces and sometimes find the right formula. We don't need a "new" offense at ISU, just a consistent offense that can be tailored to our players and run by a guy who has a feel for the game.

Or maybe the ones that came knocking on his door he was not interested in. We really do not know. I do know he left Nevada and went to Arkansas as the OL coach and after Petrino was fired and the entire staff let go that he was rapidly hired by ISU as OL coach and Bleil was given a coaching change to TE's.

I would prefer a hire of an outside OC. But would not be opposed to Klenakis. And probably prefer him over Sturdy.

Whaaa? Who said anything about a new offense? Who said anything about inventing a new offense, for that matter? Not sure why you elaborated on any of that as it hasn't been any part of the convo of which I've been a part. As you will, tho.

I gotcha, and agree with you up until the bolded statement. To each their own. Really want anyone who can come in and crank this offense up about 10 notches! Don't care who it is as long as they get it done.

Not really sure Todd Sturdy is the man. OC at Washington State where they won 4 games in 4 years does not make me real thrilled with that type of hire. Racking up yards while the other team has already kicked your *** skews statistics.

U promise?
No, just heard last week that they should be ready by the 6th to start announcing the hires. Person works directly with football program (but not for). The person didn't know who but said he knew some of who were in the mix but not sure what positions they were being considered for. Sounds like very few actually in the know and others are just picking up bits from who has interviewed etc.

Good info stubborn - hope ur right on the 6th. This is an important week to get that info on the street with the dead period ending next week. You need to have your ducks in a row and re-acquire Mister and any other offensive prospects that you may want to target. I would be surprised if they announced today - will be lost in the hype of National Championship game. I would wait until wednesday when football news dies down.

I know this waiting is excruciating but I also wonder if timing isn't part of the strategy. Announcing just before the recruiting period opens would position us more recent in our recruits' minds.
