Yep, I can't believe how bad ISU media broadcasts can be. We have a journalism school don't we? I watch the guys out of Waco almost as much. Them being Baylor leans I still get as much info about ISU and their broadcast is way better. Kurtz I hate to say puts more into it than ISU does.

I too listen to the Sic’m 365 or whatever it is and really enjoy having a 30 somethings and maybe 60 year old perspective on all things Big 12. Chris and Blum are excellent and things are definitely on the upswing, EXCEPT the hideous Football Post Game Show. To be clear, not just last night but for years. So thrown together and passionless. Totally going through the motions because we need to throw something out there. Gross.

I think the first part with interviews in the locker room is fine. Not sure but think maybe Ryan Harklau does those? You get a lot of cautious coach speak but still fine and fun to hear the players.

It’s the postgame call-in show that is hilariously bad and just torture without CW. It probably was even worse that it was late and no games in progress to discuss.

Post coffee and I'm thinking. Why doesn't ISU's journalism dept. run, sponsor, educate..Have a program that has students working on broadcasting ISU info? Good work study I'd think? It'd be very beneficial to the school. Social media is very important these days. Fans jump site to site and good broadcasts help in every way.

NIL, for one. For two, I'm guessing there aren't enough broadcast journalism students with sports interest, AND overall ability to handle this. Then people would be saying, ISU can't even do a professional show - they need to use students. So, catch22 all around.

Riding with an Iowa fan (ya I know) in the car and he can’t stop laughing at it. It’s sounds like students produce it and perform on it for school credits.
Nothing beats the comedy of driving around Iowa and seeing and listening to the majority of their fan base. It makes our call-in show seem like a PhD program.

Not exactly sure.
The Post Game Call In Show is so pitiful it’s embarrassing. Has been for years. Laughable. Love Jack Witver but he has zero radio presence and the general production of it l, which wouldn’t take much is just sad. Chris Williams can barely keep it afloat. God love him for doing it. But it’s unlistenable.
Why do you listen then??????

Agree, except if that results in 18-22 year old journalism students on the air. We are so far behind our in state rival in adults dominating sports related content outside of in game play by play. Adults all over radio/TV (local bigtime and national too). KXNO is a microcosm of it.

Has that Iowa fan ever listened to an Iowa game? Talk about 2 clowns doing a game. Same goes for WHO 1040's Soundoff.

I actually enjoy the WHO soundoff shows, admittedly more so after a loss, but I like the post win shows too. I wish ISU had something similar, the old post game Ted Flint call in shows are really what ISU is missing and I think that sort of format (very similar to the WHO soundoff show) works really well for what it is.

Half the callers will be a case in the bag, it's chaos, but a fun time to either continue the celebration or commiserate in a loss. Twitter reactions just aren't the same. If Iowa Everywhere could resurrect that Ted Flint Kansas show and live stream a longer format post game I think you would be shocked at the viewership numbers @ChrisMWilliams.

The simplest fix would be to screen the callers.

You cant have pointless calls from Cyclone Jerry and others who have nothing to say, and then let them blather on for 90 seconds. If youre gonna have a call in show, you MUST screen calls. Pretty sure that is standard practice on every show ever - except this one.

If you arent getting any good calls, then dont put callers on the air, and the hosts have to just carry the show.

I have to ask. I swear I remember Cyclone Jerry calling on the Monday night shows back in the Nineties—and I thought he was in his seventies or eighties then.

How old is this guy? Do they keep him in formaldehyde between games?

Is he Lee Corso’s twin brother?
