I'm ready for the next game on Monday. We've beaten this dead horse so far into the ground, I doubt if we can even see it's nose showing through the dirt.

After we beat up on a nobody 2 of the next 3 games all will be fine even if we lose a road game to the hawks?

This team has issues right now to be sure but, I still think a great season is in play if we can make a few fixes and adjustments. 4 keys to get the season back on track:

1) We must not play others teams style and tempo. This has been talked about a little but, not enough IMHO. This was a huge problem last light and we never tried to change the tempo of the game. We played the bearcats style and it cost us dearly. Prohm needs to work on getting the guys to play ISU tempo. Faster game = more shots, more shots = more made shots, more made shots = a win last night. More teams will to make us play a slow game, the key to the offence and the season is weather or not we allow it to happen.

2) Shot Selection: This is half on Prohm and half on the guys. Prohm had TO's to use and didn't, that's on him but, the guys have to "buy into" taking good shots and not settle for wild contested, low percentage outside shots, This team has to play differently than last years team and we need someone who will drive to the hoop. Until the guys figure that out, we will see bad offence and losses to good teams.

3) Continue the much improved defence: Love what we're doing on D and that will keep us in games all year long.

4) We must make Free Throws. 5-11 or 45% won't cut it and it needs to be addressed.

I still think this team makes the 2nd weekend of the dance and am looking forward to the rest of the season

When playing a team that uses the whole shot clock on every one of their possessions, you can't help but play at that tempo.

Keep in mind it is WAY easier to slow down a game if that is your strategy than it is to speed one up. Especially against a team that doesn't want to go fast and have discipline to not get into a helter skelter up and down situation. When is the last time we ran UNI out of the gym?

Not rebounding worth **** didn't help the situation. If you want the game to speed up you absolutely need to get defensive rebounds and push the ball. We didn't do so well at that.

Way up there
Can't believe how many people think the sky is falling, we didn't play great last night but we still had the game won. If Matt doesn't panic and just lets Cincy foul him, we win. He wasn't the only one who made mistakes but his turnover in regulation when we had the game won and then a bailout foul to give them the go ahead FT's did us in. Just a couple tough breaks for him, he'll bounce back.

Sure, but the fact is that didn't happen and we lost a game we really needed as a result. Now we're going to have to scrape together a strong conference season to get a respectable seed since we only beat 1 team who could possibly turn out as a good win. 2 good wins in the non conference is a lot different than only 1, and it blows 0 out of the water completely. And with a down Big 12, going 1-5 against Baylor, West Virginia, and Kansas isn't an option like it was last year since they seem to be far and away the best teams in the conference this season.

Is anyone els scared that since burton had a 30 point game where he was hitting everything we are going to see a season of off balanced mid range bricks?

I'll be happy to see him make those 2 or 3 easy layups per game. Those missed bunny shots kill me. Like the T.V. analysts said it's "feast or famine".

We should fire all of the coaches. Fred would have never lost two games in a row.

Not that I didn't know this was tongue and cheek, but since you brought it up...as great and remarkable as the Holberg rebuild job was to make us relevant again, I still can't believe the UAB game to this day. While of different importance, the feelings of frustration and depression of that game was how I felt after last night. Here's to better games and a lot more fun ahead this season!

The UAB game was similar to the Hampton game...not surprising, but still shocking, if that makes sense.

The 2014-15 team seemed fragile even when it was winning and the UAB game felt like a final lesson on what happens if you don't really get it figured out. All indications from Niang interviews leading up to last year's tourney were that they weren't rightfully prepared for the game, it was a weird season, etc. but basically saying that while he couldn't say what the results were going to be, he wasn't going to allow the team to take the opportunity for granted.

Last night did kind of look similar except it's early, it was vs. a decent team and the game wasn't lost because they weren't playing hard or something.

I told all my Cronies that you dont know what kind of a coach Prohm will be until feb 2017 .......If we lose to the choke eyes even on the road the Prohm era may be set as to where this b-ball program might be headed.....

It's just not that hard to to get in to the tournament anymore.

I disagree, its a helluva lot easier to get into a bowl game, than to make the ncaa tourney...You might just find that out this year if this coach cant get more team play and 5 assts a game out of this team....mite just be some real ugly nites inside Hilton Coliseum.....aka baylor west virginia and kansas

I would not assume a win over the choke eyes at this point with this team...

K hok fan. That first line gave you away. Puff that chest out for a week (why you would, I don't know. We lost to Cincy?), we'll see you on 12/8 in Hilton East.

Those teams are nothing like Cincy. Did Cincy press or play a 2-3 zone once all game? Read a book and watch a basketball game or two.
While Cincy didn't press (because they didn't want to get into a track meet), they did employ 2-3 matchup the entire game.. They played no straight-up man-to-man. Their intent was to force the Cyclones further out on the perimeter, without having their bigs getting switched out onto quicker, smaller players.

The Moutaineers are a totally different animal. They try to turn the game into a mad scramble.

One loss to a decent team in the early going isn't going to derail ISU.

Just a tidbit I noticed on kenpom.com:

Fastest-paced game

November 11: #26 Iowa State 113, #341 Savannah State 71. [97 possessions]

When the result from this opening-night game hit the wires, it looked like Iowa State might really be increasing its pace this season. But upon reflection, this was mostly the crazy Horace Broadnax rolling out his wacky up-tempo, three-happy system to the world. The Cyclones might have their slowest-paced team since the Greg McDermott era. Current adjusted tempo ranks: Savannah State 2, Iowa State 157.
