Geoffroy gives a horrible speech and Rhoads comes in the last 10 seconds to save it.

Agreed. I didn't like that speech at all. Talk about putting the weight of the world on some young men's shoulders. He basically said that the entire success of Iowa State University depends on the football team. But hey.... no pressure.

Rhoads did a great job at the end by coming in and getting a show of hands of all the guys that had already graduated and all of those that were going to be graduating within the year. I thought that was a great thing to do.

I thought it was a good speech. He basically says be good student athletes ON and OFF the field. Have fun as a student. Make us a proud, Graduate from ISU and you are very important to ISU for many reasons (Enrollment, Money etc...) Then Coach starts practice.

I think he is just stating the obvious. I think its time for ISU football to play with some desperation. Our football program needs this season really bad. We can't afford another 2 win season.

May have not been the greatest speech, but I like the fact he took time out of his day and did that. And the players seemed to enjoy it.

I just like the fact that the president of the university is willing and would spend his time to do that.

I hope the players felt that way too. The speech was so-so at best, but it's not everyday that the president of the university drops by your practice.

Completely agree that it was great that he did it. I just think it could have been better prepared. It wasn't terrible... just not very good.

But I still think he's a tremendous guy and president.

Tough crowd...

Its not his job to fire them up. He is the President and he invested in them. He told them what is expected and the significance of their roll.

Big fan of GG.

That was a "bad speech"? did no one else have their HS Principals say the same thing to them when they were in sports? The whole, do your best, and represent the entire program in a positive light speech is a bad thing to stress?

By God! I got a lump in my throat. I can remember not thinking much of President Geoffrey in the beginning in regard to athletics and his support thereof. I have since learned otherwise. That video was simply outstanding. You know, that goes for the fans too. Make us proud.

Go Cyclones!

Agree. The fact that he did it is what is important, not his words or delivery. Class act to support the program when it is down. Easy for a prez to show up at a bowl game and do the peacock strut. Props to you prez for showing up in the gray dawn of a new era.

When I was in college, our president was a former college football coach and routinely stopped by practiced. We were very lucky to have great support.
Central College in Pella had there President also as their kicking coach (he may still be)

Gee, imagine the gall of the President of an institution of higher learning to ask scholarship football players to have accountability, responsibility and expectations for success both on and off the football field and doesn't have presentable speech intonations like it's a Monday Night WWE smackdown.

Who does he think he is?
