Do you either work longer days or use more hours of PTO when taking multiple days off in a 2 week period?

Guess I'm more often challenged to use enough in a year not to "lose" some at year-end anyway so wouldn't matter if I had to use more. It'd be real nice if they'd just payout excess PTO - would be like a bonus every year. I understand it's important to take breaks, but with so many holidays and the rate I'm accruing, there's always plenty leftover.
If you do it you are expected to use more PTO if you take time off. That being said our PTO is tracked down to the 10th of an hour (due to the industry we have to log time to that level). So if you work more you can offset your PTO and save vaca time.
Since I've changed to 9/80, I have so much unused PTO, that I started taking off the Fridays I'm supposed to be working. Not every week, but I'd say 75% of the year I'm on a 4 day work week due to this. It makes leaving my current company pretty much impossible, as the thought of working every Friday would feel like being asked to work Saturdays for most people.

While it's a huge benefit, I've lost all motivation to look for other jobs outside the company. At some point, a certain dollar amount is worth losing that day, and I need to figure out what it is.

Due to longevity I get a fourth week of vaca next year as well so I imagine I could end up taking a lot of Fridays off or at least the afternoon.

Four of my sons have been on a 9/80 schedule for quite a while. Especially nice for appointments like the vet or dentist, and helpful when weddings they have to travel for fall on the Friday off.

What is the standard for saying that you are return to office? I'm in the office 1 day per week and I would consider myself mostly work from home.
Yeah, but if someone needs to be in the office once a week, that limits the pool of candidates down to that one metro essentially. Take out that one day a week when you need to be in the office and you can hire anyone in the country.

I agree. For my job, I do think you have to be local to your office (we have offices nationwide). I was just curious how we define it. I wouldn’t consider us returned to offices until we were in the office 3 days per week. Which was what we were prior to the pandemic.

I saw a YouTube video where this person was making the case that in office people need to be compensated for time spent commuting and other things.

One thing that was mentioned was 1/2 hour showering and getting ready. Outside of the fact that 1/2hour to get ready seems high to me, the bigger question is……do WFH people not shower, brush their teeth, etc if they don’t go into the office? That seems nasty.

Hint: they are doing these things during work day hours.

At least one of my sons says his work lets them count commute time as work hours. I was surprised and kind of wonder if any of the other four have the same deal. He only has a ten minute drive if it’s a day he goes in but they don’t have enough work space for more than half of his team on any given day.

Buddy of mine who works for Principal said they had some major layoffs in their teams/departments yesterday. I didn't hear anything about it outside of him, though, so wonder if it was relatively small. He wasn't let go, but multiple people he works with and people he trains were let go.
