You forgot to mention that Harlan is 2-1 vs Heelan in football since they became 3A. Also Harlan won a basketball title in 2006. I am far from being a supporter of Harlan but to say Heelan is any better then them is comical.

Why? You gonna dazzle me with some harlan facts. Make sure they're dated after 2004 while Heelan was in 3A. When was the last time harlan was beaten at home in football? Oh yeah, it was 2007. Guess who beat 'em.

I was a Gael of St. Ed's and I didn't see one recruitment in the entire 18 years that I grew up there. In fact we lost our point guard to Dowling, but that was for a move and not recruiting. I have heard so many of these dumb rumors of recruiting and unfair advantages of private schools, but they only come out when a private school wins something. When I was in school we barely won any football games and rarely qualified for state so I guess our A.D. should have learned how to run a private athletic department.
You have provided no evidence that Harlan is better than Heelan with regard to performance in class 3A athletics as a whole. The notion that Harlan should move up to 4A in football because they "dominate 3A" is wrong. If you think it is right then how do you account for the fact that Heelan was in the championship last year in its second season in 3A?
Also, I didn't start this thread about high school athletics but have stated my interest in it. If anyone feels it is somehow uncool or adolescent to post on this thread, then don't. But like it or not Heelan and Harlan produce D1 recruits that ISU is interested in. This isn't just "glory days" drivel.
Anyone posting here tonight obviously doesn't have something better to do so why not let those of us who are interested in this topic converse w/o interuption.
To be clear, I'm not a Harlan hater. In fact I thought it was precious that they had no 3A first teamers yet won the championship. If I were their coach I'd blow that page of the DM Register up to poster size and give each kid one in a frame.

Your example was that Heelan beat Harlan in football at Harlan last year. Did you forget Harlan beat Heelan at Heelan as well earlier in the season? What about the year before in 2006. Harlan wins 21-7. So Harlan is 2-1 against Heelan in football...
In basketball I believe the only time they've met was last year at state and lost by the tip in at the buzzer...(I may be wrong though)
So I would not say that Heelan has been dominating Harlan at all. And when were you talking about athletics as a whole? You gave the example of Heelan beating Harlan at Harlan as your only example...the same year Harlan won at Heelan.
As I said I really don't wanna argue but I just don't get your point at all. Look at the facts and Heelan has not "dominated" Harlan whatsoever.

on a side note, I'm thinking there's another word that needs to be added to the star* list at the end of that guys post (not IcSyU, the other guy).
I made it through most of the posts before giving up and coming here to add my 2 cents, as I was a private school kid.
First of all, yeah, all of the public schools in our conference hated us because we were very competitive in all of the big sports. As far as I knew, we did not give scholarships to any sports players. We did have a program where students could work over the summer helping the maintenance staff do work around the school to help pay off tuition, but that was open to anyone.
Otherwise, we are a part of the NIC-9 (Nothern Illinois Conference 9 - now NIC-10), so we had to follow all rules for that conference, same with the rest of the public schools. People around the city know which schools tend to be good at which sports, and have the ability to choose accordingly, since Rockford has a preference-based assignment program for public schools.
Now Illinois did implement a multiplication penalty, so that all the private schools were considered to have a larger enrollment than in actuality. Reason they did this is because, over the past couple decades or whatever, the sports championships were about 50/50 between public and private schools, and they decided that was too much for the private schools to win. Now, my school was already in the highest level since we had 1200-1300 students, so it didn't exactly affect us.
Also, as a final note, although we are usually at the top of our conference, the Chicago suburb public schools still usually beat us and the rest of the schools in my conference. So the competition on the various conferences can have a fairly big effect.
