That confused me at first, but you're right. Otherwise the political BS would get spewed all over these other boards. I suppose that's why it was created in the first place. Brilliant!
I think it is a little bit of both.
The Cave is basically all invective nowadays. Trump and rage, transported over from cable news and social media, broke it. There were some interesting policy discussions there at one point, but no longer. Not particularizing the Cave for this -- not trying to be nostalgic, and I am only 31, but I do not remember the debates/discussions around
serious national crises like 9/11, the Iraq War, or the Financial Crisis being a fraction as bad as what goes on with Twitter on a daily basis. The Cave is just caught up in that, nothing unusual to CF whatsoever in that way.
It reminds me of a quote I heard somewhere...
"In the 20th Century, Madison Avenue discovered that sex sells. In the 21st Century, Palo Alto (and other various purveyors of social media) discovered that anger sells."
Encapsulating the worst of it over there is helpful, leaving the scene clear for some decent news and discussion of Iowa State sports. Indeed, probably the worst of the posters in the Cave are ones who never seem to say anything about the Cyclones.
Then again, the attitude and chirpiness can spill over here. Certain vendettas develop over the usual political flame wars and people remember the screen names when it comes down to discussing, well, obvious pain points like the end of this basketball season.
So I think it is both. I do not know how they net out.
I was very very disappointed that so many left.
It was disrespectful as hell for Nick, Marial, and Zoran.
People can say whatever they want to/about Prohm. He's being paid millions to do this professionally. Being mean to the players is what crosses the line, to me.
I know the past few weeks have not gone how we hoped they would, but giving those three a few minutes, when they have slaved for years and are going to be more heartbroken about this the rest of their lives than we are, is the least we can do.
