No kidding. Does bama care that much about basketball? No. Think of all of the latest version of blocking dummies they could buy with 8 million.

calling $EC offensive linemen recruits blocking dummies is pretty offensive

I think the only two jobs Steve would leave ISU for is Bama or LSU. Both of those jobs may be open this spring and they would both pay him handsomely compared to his $2M base at ISU.

If those jobs open Pollard better open the checkbook quick.

Do you have any confidence that JP will open up the checkbook? Outside of Campbell that hasn’t been his MO.

And I would put the odds high on both jobs opening up.

What really sucks in all of this is that this big ******* distraction is thrown out right before the team is ready to begin the most crucial part of their season.....and after a whole bunch of drama, and unwanted pubby.

Let's just let CSP coach these guys for a couple more weeks or so, eh?
If anyone on the team is worried about this message board drivel we're in big trouble tomorrow.

But would hypothetically turn down Kentucky, Tennessee, or Florida to stay in Ames? I'll have 2 of whatever you are having.

How many other times has the opportunity been there?

Hoiberg? We would have had to open the checkbook to an extreme level, plus he wanted to give the NBA a try anyway so money alone may not have done it.

Rhoads was really the only other one, and we effectively did that at the time, offering greater contract length in exchange for upfront cash. Saved us some money in the end.

It certainly seems like there's more money being made available by larger donors right now as well, given some of the facilities projects being launched. Those donors may be willing to fork out more to keep him here.

Though they had had some historical success, there was the same feeling around Michigan for along time. Now they're a basketball school. The point is, any school has the potential to have a great basketball program. It takes about 10% of the players and the margins are bigger.

But Michigan DOES have history. It's not like you can throw money at any program and make it a winner. You can try, and schools will try, but there's no guarantees.

There's been talk of Alabama trying to compete in basketball since their last hire. I remember rumors that they were going to throw a bag of money at Hoiberg while he was still at ISU.

The point is, there is more to creating a successful program than money.

Michigan has a fanbase that, at least at one point, cared about basketball. They also care about football.
Bama fans have never cared about basketball, and they probably wont in the future. They spend too much to get football tickets.

You should read johnny’s autobiography, and see what the support really was.

The fab 5 was 25 years ago.
