I felt bad for Gilstrap and the rest of the seniors (non-bb players). They didn't get a real senior send off. I remember guys like Jake getting really good ones. But the crowd did their best to help out at the end of the game.

If they wanted fans to show up in March, the team could have shown up anytime in November, December, January and February.

:biglaugh:

You mean the ones that got up to leave when ISU was ahead by 1 with 4:00 to play? Or the ones that got up to leave when ISU was up 2 with 1:00 left in regulation? Or maybe the ones that had to swallow their pride (and sacrifice their cool concourse spot) and grab an upper parquet seat for the first 2 minutes of OT...then repeated the whole "I have to beat the traffic, but not actually leave" maneuver.

I think we owe a big round of applause to all of the fans who have continued to make the trek into Hilton for what I consider to be the most underachieving season in the history of Cyclone basketball.

There have been plenty of posts on here criticizing the lack of butts in seats, especially towards the end of the season, but I can't fault anyone for not wanting to give up their free time and hard earned money to watch the quality of product that was being put on the floor night in and night out.

I am a huge proponent of supporting the student athletes for their efforts and for showing faith in your school, but even I could not carry it through the entire season this year. Bravo to those of you who did!

Agree!

-1 to all those who have quit on Iowa State, Congrats!

7 hours for each game for me. I can live with the fact that I no longer attend. I still commend those that do but have a myriad of excuses/reasons for not attending.

Most of the crowd, some of the crowd, whatever. I was at my assigned seat the whole game, the people immediately around me were, and people were standing up caring about the game.

Crowd was into it last night and actually a few more there than I thought would be. Those fans were just as frustrated as those that have quit coming but we are still supportive of our team and I don't think it's fair that our fans quit on our team like they have when the players have not quit on us all season. It would have been very easy for this team to just roll over and accept their fate but as Greg said we've had 12 conference games we were within 1 possesion in the last 3-4 mins of the game. We may be 3-9 in those games but the team fought hard and didn't quit. Can't remember what game it was not long ago but we got down by like 20 early and this team fought back and actually took the lead for a bit. It's too bad we didn't have the luck of the bounce in a few more games this year because the effort these players have put in have been much better than their W/L record shows. You can thank Lucca for part of this too, his 3 point shooting threat alone cost us a few games for sure.

I went to my first game of the year in person last night. We are a sloppy and poorly coached team. I have no idea how people have put up with going to watch that in person all year. The guy in front of me said he hasn't missed a game, and he still cannot figure out what McD is trying to do as a coach.

What people need to remember about all those close losses is that most probably teams were playing down to our level. That is pathetic but it is likely where the truth is.

I made it to all but five games and feel like I deserve a medal. Those of you who batted 1.000 should be honored with a plaque the Jacobson Building.

I don't know which was harder. Was it actually paying to attend the game and knowing we were going to lose or waiting to watch it on tv in the 21st century on that horrible broadcast they call the big 12 network. I didn't make a game in Hilton this year but i did watch my share of what looked like a 1972 quality production of a game. I know the south endzone is a pipe dream for funding but how about getting the funding to have all the games in hd.

Our fan base is unreal in it's devotion to all things Cyclone. Now money donated is another issue for another thread. The guy who puts his butt in the seat and stands up and cheers for an average, at best, product deserves everybodies thanks. I hope we do not go back to the Lynn Nance/Ken Trickey era as far as attendance. The "serious money" donors will determine McDermott's future. It is a good thing that the fans did not give up because, as far as I can tell, the players gave it a good effort.
For whatever reason, poor coaching or maybe not enough talent this year has been a complete disaster.

Can I get a plaque? I only missed 2 games all year. Once when both my wife and infant son were sick and the other was some completely meaningless game in December when there was a snowstorm.

I was very shocked when some of the conference games had less butts in the seats then the first two exhibition games.

I know what you mean.. Ive missed 2 games in the last couple years. Its amazing how much smaller game by game the crowd is getting... how much less people cheer during things like player intros... how little people are upset when we lose.... and how few students go.

When you consider both student sections down low and the one up top. it has been about 20% full at best the last few games. (which is good for us because they are letting anyone sit in Cyclone Alley now, including us upper deck people.)

This will be my first year since I started at ISU in 1986 that I have not seen ISU play at least one MBB game in person. I don't see the point in driving 350 miles to see a team lose. I have lost all confidence in GMac's ability to be successful at ISU. I thought he was a good hire four years ago (even though I didn't want WM to be fired), but I was worried about GMac's ability to recruit Big 12 athletes. Ironically, he and his staff brought in three of the most talented players (WJ, CB and MG) that ISU has had in the last 10 years. The problem is that supporting cast has been way below Big 12 standards ** and I don't see any reason to believe things are going to get any better next year.

** Edit: I also think one has to conclude that GMac's coaching abilities are below Big 12 standards. 0-20 versus ranked teams. ISU has had enough talent over the last 4 years to win at least a handful of games against ranked teams. We even lost games in which Lucca went off for 30 points or Brackins went off for 42 points. 0-20 with several of those losses in a rocking Hilton means the coach is not getting the most out of his players.

Games are still fun to go to.

I live 20 minutes away. Tickets were 4.95 a game to sit in the 4th row of the balcony (a majority of games nobody was there, so they let us sit down low). Clone cones are great.

Plus other teams bring in fantastic players that you know will be in the NBA at some point in time, so it is a treat to watch them.

Plus after last season, I dont get that sick feeling when we lose anymore. Its just pretty much teh same feeling either way.

Yeah, I still enjoy going. Not like it used to be where I thought we could beat anyone coming in, but still fun. I always get a clone cone and just enjoy being in the middle of all those Clone fans. Besides, I need a place to take the kids to start the brainwashing process!
