Think we all saw the issue in first game, but today we had an unbelievable coaching/ learning experience opportunity and still escaped with a win. I assume it will be addressed, hopefully not a continuing issue all season.

He's had 2 blocked and at least 3 or 4 almost blocked. He does have a good leg so hopefully the coaches fix it. Just look at tapes of how Taylor gets it off.

The first "Block" looked like he punted it into the defenders shoulder or face?had it not got blocked might have been a shank right for 20 yards

I’m pretty sure punters have a get off time they should be under. I thought after the first game “we’re for sure going to get punts blocked this year if this kid doesn’t get it off quicker.” Iowa saw that too and it worked. Gotta imagine the big 12 will be bringing the heat at our punter all season and we’ll probably see more blocked punts this year if he doesn’t start getting it off quicker

This get the punt off time is taught in middle school. 3 step punting died in the 70s. If we are indeed allowing 3 step punting then the ST coach not only needs to be fired but by execution squad.

I don’t think the issue was with the punter’s steps. On both blocks the same Iowa guy rushed hard and blew up our blocker to get a hand on the ball. So anticipate that rush and step out and hit the guy in the mid section before he gets to you. The first time it was Vance and the second time it was a different ISU blocker. All 3 of our blockers in front of the kicker are way too passive in engaging.

It's been a while since we've had a 2 step punter at ISU. But i think part of the punting woes is missing Hathcock as our LS on punts... Significant drop off with Guess.
What happened to Hathcock? I loved the story of his scholarship and remember when he layed out the Oklahoma punt returner in the 2020 championship game.

Pretty common for HS punters to 3 step with long strides. Kid has a leg.

I think I saw ISU's punter with a 3-step kick. Did I not see it correctly? If so, that is a big part of the reason for the blocks. Gives the rushers more time in which to cover less distance. Have to fix that.
I am not sure you can blame all that on the punter, the second line was timid blocking, waiting from pressure to get to them, and very little even get in the way on the big guy who was involved on both blocks, please learn and fix!

Statistically speaking, your chance of winning the game when you get a punt blocked is…..10%.

Did anybody notice that the snaps on punts weren’t straight back to the punter? He was offset to the right 2-3 yards on each of the punts. Very strange design,

Yes. This trumps the 3 step ******** all day long. The snap is now at an angle and is taking longer to get to the punter. A second or two makes all the difference in the world and we are screwed from the snap.
