I have a quick question for those that live in Ames. I am going to on a 5 hour drive and my tires look like they need to be filled up with air. Is there a gas station in Ames that has an air compressor that I can use? Thanks.

Swift Stop on Grand in North Ames does. I believe the Swift Stop on Duff in South Ames does also. I'm sure a lot of others do.

Don't most gas stations have air compressors?
Pretty much. Definitely the Kum & Go at South Dakota and Lincoln way, the station across from Family Video and the one by Highway 30 on University do.

Actually, Swift Stop on North Grand is now closed. So is Ames Gas on LW.

I know that the Phillips 66 on North Grand and Bloomington has air. So does the Kum and Go on west Lincoln Way.

The Kum and Go at South Dakota and Lincoln Way had a pump that was free to use when I last lived in Ames (2006).

Actually, the Kwik Shop closed. Swift Stop is still open.

And this Swift Stop, right by Cub Foods off of Grand has a FREE air compressor, one of the few in town to my knowledge. And it is run by Gary Thompson's company I believe.

I can think of atleast 6 gas stations that have free air just off the top of my head, just drive to the closest one to you.

Hansens at the corner of Duff and Lincolnway does and would probably help you, too. Mark is a big ISU Cyclone supporter.

Thanks a lot to all. I must just not be looking hard enough. Thanks again!

Gas stations that CHARGE for air! Seriously? Is it really that bad that some places charge 50 cents just so you can put some air in your tires when most other places let you do it for free? What's next, coin operated windshield squeegies? I can bet you the fluid, squeegies, and towels for all of that has a lot more costs wrapped up in it than running an air compressor a couple minutes every now and then!

I wouldn't trust Ames air for a 5 hour trip. You need to go to Casey's in Slater. Ask for Mike, get the special nossel.
