Yes, I burnt out quite a few synapses trying to figure out what Fred's strategy was in those few moments.
Hmm. Maybe there wasn't a state residency requirement at that time. There is now, though.
It also used to be a full-ride scholarship (I know a couple people who used it); now it seems to just be tuition. I'm guessing they've made it stricter over the years.

^^^Cyfever, it doesn't go back that far. Son was offered National Merit scholarship in 2008 and it was total cost of attendance, not just tuition. Instead, he went to a "top five" academic institution where cost of attendance is about $50,000, and for his merit scholarship, all he got was $2500 from NMSC. Ouch.
My son that went to ISU knows a kid who lived in Friley all four years -- in that same high school class of 2008. Part of the free ride is they pay for the normal dorm and normal meal plan.

I had a full ride - tuition, room and board - from 2001-2005 for being a National Merit Scholar.
Don't you only get room/board if you live on campus housing? Went from '05-'09 and my buddy was a NMS and had to stay on campus all 4 years to get anything. If he lived anywhere else he wouldn't get anything beyond tuition.
The full ride either started in 1996 or 1997, because I know an AHS grad who didn't get one in 1995 (and went to another school that did offer a full-ride for National Merit Scholars), and I know an AHS grad who went to Iowa State on a NMS full ride in 1997.

Apparently it has went back and forth over the years. Tuition only up until about the mid 90s, full ride for 10-15 years and now back to tuition only.
I overheard Railey talking on the phone tonight. He said it was decided on Monday that he will be transferring. He also said TJ has been fielding most of the calls from other teams. Two that I heard mentioned were San Diego and Washington State.
I am good friends with j-bone, he will be taking his talents to a mid major. He was eyeing thee portland state university
Bubu came to school here with the understanding that he was going to have to pay for school the entire time. The fact that he was on scholarship this year is more of a reward than many walk-ons get.
He is not losing a scholarship. He was rewarded by being on scholarship for one year. I would imagine if he said he was leaving if we didn't put him on scholarship, we'd say "see ya".

Figures. I had one from 90-94 and it was not even full tuition, only $2k per year. That was about 60% of tuition only. I could have used mo' money to buy mo' Beast Lite.
In all seriousness, I was thrilled to get it.
