Don’t remember how good they were but names I remember from my first years going to games:

Jason Putz and Matt Straight.

I remember a pile up and Putz just grabbing the guys leg straight up in the air until the pile cleared.

Tom Roach. Ran for an 80 yard TD in a 69-0 beatdown of Colorado State in 1980. I see he passed away in 2015. RIP

He randomly messaged me on Myspace years ago asking if he could open for me next time I went on tour. He thought I was a stand-up comedian but got me mixed up with my brother.

I'm gonna go with RB Graston Norris. Busted off a 90-ish yard TD run against UNLV after Troy Davis had already racked up a ton of yards in that game.

Matt Robertson. I remember going to the spring game in '03 or '04 and he looked like someone drew up a LB and created him in a lab. Had the full neck roll and everything.

He was great until he got kicked off the team.

Duane Crutchfield, played for ISU in the early 1980s. Lead the Big Eight Conference in rushing in 1980 with 1312 yards and had 2501 rushing yards in 2 seasons. Two time First Team All Big Eight. Drafted by the Jets in round 3. I still remember the many time Pete called his name out on the radio.

Chris Spencer , WR 90-92. I played against him in basketball at Beyer when I was a high school Junior. I blocked him from behind on a lay-up. He was 6'3 and I was 6'0.

Ty Stewart, PK, 91-94. He came to one of our Ames HS soccer practices in '91 and gave of a few drills to practice.

Tom Randall, DT, 74-77. He was on my dad's softball team for a few seasons growing up. Dude could hit the long ball!!

Blythe. Was a nice WR but mostly because he went to my hs where his dad taught science and coached baseball.

Maybe the most notable achievement of my high school football career was tackling him (FOR A LOSS) in a freshman football game. He was playing rb for them.
