Random ISU FB player you remember

Hiawatha Rutland RIP

I loved this guy. Also, I'm not sure if anyone can confirm or deny (this is all super hazy), but I remember hearing a story about him that he participated in some type of open mic student comedy show one year during VEISHEA. Anyway, he's up there doing his bit and one of his punchlines is basically about how people from Iowa have sex with farm animals. So it bombs and then he just ends up sitting on stage in silence until his time is up. I have no idea if it's true or not, but it makes me laugh so much, so I hope it's true. If anyone has more information on this I would LOVE IT (unless you're gonna tell me it's not true, cuz then don't say anything).

I have vivid memories of him kicking xp’s onto/over the Jacobson building.. and he would have kickoffs go through the uprights.

….and he would get seemingly half his kicks blocked.
And then was a decent punter...if I recall had a great fake one time and scrambled for some decent yards

Dwayne Crutchfield is one of my favorites. My brother was a ball boy at the time and we got a few of his rip a way jerseys and one still in tact.

Ellis Hobbs is one of my favorites also

Safety Steve Paris: He had a hit so big on Iowa QB Drew Tate, that Drew Tate was knocked out of the game (likely concussed). It was the cherry on top of a royal ass whooping that day.

DE Jake Lattimer: He was the epitome of a guy who maxed out his talents. Strong player for us in the peak Rhoads years. Had a two sack game when we won at UT in Austin TX.

DT Enyi Uwazurike: I live in Denver and met him at a car wash. It is astounding to me how big that guy is. He was the anchor of the 3 line man front in the peak Campbell era. I honestly don't think that defense works that well without him. Will McDonald was a once in a generation talent, but Enyi Uwazurike took a lot of double teams to free everyone up. Happy he's a strong player for the local Broncos too
ENYIs a very nice guy also. His GF is from my wife’s hometown so we run into him occasionally.

Which FB player dressed up as the large ballerina and would chase the flag guy at MBB games. He was fun. I think he played quite a bit but I'm just drawing a blank on his name.

Who was the kid (linebacker, I think) from the Rhoads era whose Instagram featured him posing with live, wild racoons, squirrels, ducks, etc. that he caught with his hands?

Willie Scott, Rhoads era defensive end that played at around 220 pounds. Still to this day the smallest player I've ever heard of starting on the d line.

Carl Gomez, one of the unsung heroes from the first Insight bowl team / win. Was a punter that was called in to kick FGs during the season due to injuries.

Jordan Carstens. Walk on at ISU to the NFL.
This is the guy I was going to mention too. He went to my HS and was a year behind me. I remember running into him on campus the spring of his redshirt freshman year and he was just completely ripped from what I remembered him in HS. He told me he had been lifting weights and basically told to eat as much as he could! He came onto campus weighing 225, was 275 by end of his RS year and I think he was around 300 by the time he graduated. Great guy and was sad to see his FB career end so soon because of health as he had earned a started spot on the Panthers DL the year he had to retire.

My other random player is Derrick Walker. He essentially was the original QB to LB success story before Lanning. Played 1999 and 2000, was originally brought in to compete with Rosenfels for the starting QB job but converted to LB in 2000 and won a starting job starting 11 games with 61 tackles and got a look in the Eagles camp but didn't make the team.

McCarny Era
  1. Justin Eilers - Dude was roided up and broke another player's jaw in practice during a fight in a fit of roid-rage. Went on to fight in MMA
  2. Ellis Hobbs - Art and Design major (like me). Talked to him frequently in the art library. Super nice guy. Had a great NFL career with the Eagles and Patriots.
  3. Jason Barryman - terrorized QBs as well as the general Ames community. Dude could not keep his **** together. I still remember the play vs. Iowa where the snap got past Drew Tate cause he was literally staring at Barryman in terror and forgot the snap count.
  4. Tyeses Thompson - just an all-time great name. Got into a lot of legal trouble, and I think may still be in jail?
  5. Josh Johnson - a random RB who tore up the field one spring. All the coaches called him "juice" and were all saying all spring, "he's got the juice!" Never saw the field.
  6. Mike Wagner - decent running back who gave one of the most brutal blocks I've ever seen to spring Seneca for "the run."
Chizik Era
  1. Phil Bates - highly rated QB who begrudgingly switched to WR when he wasn't handed the starting. job. Transferred to Ohio and wasn't very good there. Had a huge catch against Iowa that set up the game-winning FG tho.
Rhodes Era
  1. David Irving/Rodney Coe - kinda the same person in my mind. Both were awesome on the field but real **** heads off the field. We all remember Irving carrying the stop sign down Welch Ave during the final Veisha riot. Irving got some run with the Cowboys but couldn't stay away from the reefer.
  2. Bo Williams - Former 4-star RB who transferred from Florida. Couldn't crack the 3 deep, and Cyclone Nation was in meltdown every Saturday when he didn't see the field. Finally, they put him in the game in a blowout loss against Texas A&M, and he ripped off a 40-yard run. CF literally crashed. Never got another carry after that.
