Part of it might be advertising on media that you’re not watching/consuming.
Makes sense. Many of these movies are lower budget, and as a general rule, the cost to advertise is about the same as the cost to make the film, so they aren't going to spend the money for numerous TV spots. And also I think a lot of nominated films now are on streaming platforms, and like you said if you don't subscribe, you won't know about them.

I picked a stupid day to have to spend the afternoon in a clinic getting an infusion. It is SO nice outside. Will try and stream the ISU game but not sure clinic wifi wll support that. My old cheap ass data plan would explode if I stream via towers.

Never a dull moment with our neighbor's. Their 38 year old son was passed out drunk in his car around 8:30 last night. Ambulance, fire rescue and two cop cars showed up around 8:30. They hauled him away in the ambulance last night. Seems like this happens at least twice a year. It's really sad as they have tried to get him help but since he is of age, they can't force him. I have no idea what they are going to do with him now. They evicted him once but he came back as he has no where else to go.
I'm watching the game. If they win, I'm going online for the tickets. Want me to get 3?
For those like @stormchaser2014 last weeks Planet Money episode broke down how political the Oscars are with the studios marketing directly at voters and whatnot. They also got into how the membership has changed which has brought in more international movies to be nominated and win.
Some days it just feels good to give some attitude.
I picked up some medication today & before the pharmacy tech rang it up, I told her the price was incorrect and it needed to be re-submitted to my insurance company. I started to explain why but she interrupted, said she's going to check and walks away while I'm talking. She came back and informed me the cost WAS accurate, it was AFTER insurance AND a manufacturer's coupon.
I told her I had already contacted my insurance company and it was not correct, it was actually rejected because it needed a prior authorization - which was just approved today and the amount I pay is much less. She said, "I'll have to cancel this order and then re-do everything. It will take about 20 minutes for me to do this. And most insurance companies don't cover this medication". I just looked at her, smirked and said "Mine does".
Seven minutes later she finished and called me up to the register to pay. My portion was $525 less than what she tried telling me I owed.
I get a little riled up when someone quickly dismisses me after I've done my due diligence and research!

We just got home yesterday, and are heading back on Wed. afternoon, so will (again) miss the women's championship game. Should be there in time for evening men round Wed., and then for the duration.
@NWICY we have two unused tix if you want one for tomorrow night. Pretty darn close to the court, too!
Too late! I just bought tickets for the three of us (me, Lew & NWICY) in the third row of sec 116. Can't wait!!
